Hello,
On my HP Pavilion computer DVD Rom can read and recognise disk successfully but when ever I follow the steps for burning files it keeps asking for a blank DVD.

If what you have is actually a "DVD Rom" then it is read-only and will not burn files. Can you give a model number or some other way for us to tell if this is actually a writable drive? perhaps the properties from Device Manager?
