I want to buy an external blu ray player to play blu rays on my desktop and dvds and cds on my netbook. I have had a hard time finding any reviews or buying guides. Does anyone have some good resources or drive recommendations?

Thanks

Those are a little pricey. I don't really need speed or software. I really just want a BD/DVD/CD reader. I know they start around $55, but I am weary of buying something that doesn't work.

Is there a better option?

Get an internal one if you want one for 50-60. Externals will be more expensive.
Here is an external read only http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6827249060

Or you can try to make your own external, buy an internal drive and a USB drive enclosure, although at times I have seen this not work. Usually does though.

Hang the 9 is right on the money, they dont make an external reader to my knowledge.

As for not needing software, windows won't natively play a blu-ray movie disk (data disks are fine) so unless you already have something , you will...

I know I will need software, but I don't want to buy it bundled because you can get it for cheap. I don't really want an enclosure because they are heavy to lug around.

I am looking at this one

Software on it's own is much more than if you buy it in a retail package with a drive.
Win DVD is $60, Power DVD is 40-60 depending on the features.

Never tried that drive, but it does say Bluray on it. How good it is though, I can't say.
