I installed windows & on an older computer (2006) and now I cannot write files to CD-RW . The drives (DVD and DVD-RW) work if I put a music CD in them. But if i try to burn data to them it's no deal.
Anyone have any idea of what's going on?

1. Were you able to burn Data on same drive prior to installing Windows 7
2. Uninstall driver in Device Manager and restart PC and let Windows automatically select/install driver
3. Try This
4. Drive might have gone bad - possible?

Most probably your drive has gone bad. The lasers in a CD/DVD drive do die after a time due to contamination in the laser during manufacture.
