Pretty noobish question. Putting together a build with a DVD burner that is a SATA I interface. My mobo only has SATA II and SATA III, do I need an adapter/cable? Thanks.

SATA III is backward compatible with SATA II and SATA I

Now-days, computers are basically: if it fits with no pressure, it works. (note: excluding CPUs).

Like area51 said, SATA 3 and 2 are backwards compatible.

SATA II drives are backward compatible but I think it will not work with some older mobo's like my ASUS P4C800 Deluxe etc. The new bios also would not recognize the 250GB SATA II properly.
So its better to go through the updates in the user manual and then contact them to double check if your drive will be backward compatible with their motherboard.

Thanks. So if I use a SATA II cable to connect my SATA I disc drive to a SATA II slot on the mobo, it should work out? HDD is just SATA II to SATA II.
