Also, which one has a lower power draw to save on the electric bill?

as power consumption, i have no idea

but from looking at the spec, it looks like LG has a faster speed on some of the parts...

you definitely get what you pay for... but sometimes i would just got with the cheaper drive since its not the biggest deal for me.

you can save money here to spend on something much more :)

lets see, both do light scribe if you use it that is

samsung read speeds:
cd 48x
dvd 16x
lg read speeds:
cd 48x
dvd 16x

so both are even there

samsung write speeds
cd-r 48x
cd-rw 24x
dvd-r 22x
dvd-rw 8x
dvd+r dual layer 16x
dvd-r dual layer 12x

compare to LGs

cd-r 48x
cd-rw 32x
dvd-r 24
dvd-rw 8x
(does not list dual layer writing ability on direct canada?)

i would probably go with the samsung, both should use the same amount of power, it would be negligible i think

well, newegg says the lg's dual layer is 8x for both dvd-r DL and dvd+r dl so the samsung wins the overall speed contest there
