Forum Overclocking : AMD AMD 960t OC question

amd 960t cpu

2x 4gb 1600 vengeance ram

im planning to lower my dram multipler to x6.66 tht will underclock my ram to 1333 and just raise my nb freq to 240 and tht will OC my cpu from 3ghz to 3.6ghz and pop my rams back to 1600. then set NB freq to 2400. This is how i OC my 955BE.

but the 960t also have a cpb ratio which i have no idea wut it is. it was originally at 3.6ghz but after raising my NB freq it popped to over 4ghz. should i keep it at 4ghz or lower it?

or should i just keep everything normal and only raise the cpu multiplier?

and should i unlock my cpu core via bios or will it automatically unlock after OC? and right under the cpb ratio it also have a turbo option...should i enable turbo?

I'm not sure what "cpb ratio" is. Do you mean CPU-NB ratio?

You will have to unlock CPU cores via BIOS.

I have a 960T with a MSI 890fxa-gd65 board using a hyper 212 evo cooler, and I unlocked cores and just OC'd using CPU multiplier... I'd say that's the simpler way to start out your overclock.

I didn't feel like messing around with the FSB too much, so I just stopped when I couldn't increase multipliers anymore. I got to (with 6 cores):

4.0 GHz (200x20) on 1.48 vcore
2.8 GHz (200x14) CPU-NB frequency on 1.3 vnb

no i really do mean cpb ratio.
i also see cpu nb and i plan to raise it to 2400 to match my dram.
ill screenshot it when i go back home later.

Turbo should be disabled, and my understanding is that the CPB ratio should be disabled or set to 1:1.

+1^ ---Disable Turbo and Spread Spectrum, CPB should be 1:1

@joobie-->leave all other settings alone until you get it stable with the desired clock speed then you can play around with the other settings

ok i've only managed to get to 3.6ghz stable. any higher i get bsod after awhile.
and i tried to unlock my 2 extra cores via bios..it unlocked but i can't load pass windows screen. it would either freeze or bsod me. how do i stably unlock both cores? i'm pretty happy with 3.6ghz but if u guys have any ideas to stably get it higher, do tell.

i left everything alone and disabled turbo and up the multiplier to x17 to get to 3.6ghz

I wouldn't even overclock with 6 cores unless you get an aftermarket cooler. You just run way to hot when you're using 6 for the stock heatsink.

@lowjack989

I'm not sure what happened. I somehow got switched around in threads so I deleted what I said about the fsb and running memtest. Haha

im using cooler master hyper 212+
my cpu is running super cool @ 3.7 ghz
only reason y i got this cpu cuz i thought i can get it to 6 core. i'm happy with my current set up but if i can get it to 6core i'd be happier ^_^
my mobo is GA 970a-ud3 not sure if tht makes a difference in unlocking.

Well were you able to find an unlocking option in the bios?

Reply to cheap_gamer4life

yes but i can't get pass the windows logo loading screen when i unlocked them. so i kept them locked up. was wondering if there is another way of unlocking or something else i needed to do. i tried just unlocking 1 and still wont load.

Hmm, have you tried increasing the voltage at all? I sometimes can't get mine to unlock if it's not at least at 1.44v in the bios. Just don't put the voltage past 1.47 or so when your trying to unlock it.
