Forum Overclocking : Water Cooling Are these parts okay? What else do I need? fix'd

XSPC Rasa Low profile 240mm radiator
EK Supreme HF Universal CPU Liquid Cooling Block
EK Dual Bay SPIN Reservoir
Swifttech MCP655 pump
Monsoon Free Center Compression Fitting - 1/2"ID x 3/4"OD

+ tubing, silver killcoil, and thermal paste

Also, I need help figuring out what screws to buy. I will be using this case...

Phantom 410

So what mounting stuff do I need? Should I have the fans push air from the case into the radiator, or suck air in from outside the case through the radiator?

Thanks for your help
Nick

This if possible, but it depends on where you are mounting the rad and what fans and if you are doing push or pull. Your case air temps shouldn't be that warm, so internal air pushing through shouldn't be too much of an issue if you have good airflow to start with.

What are your thoughts on those compression fittings?

Also, does the pump need barbs/compression fittings?

Reply to BitfeNicks

Compression fittings and barbs are simply preference.

I know, but do I just need clamps for the pump?

Thanks for the answers

If you use barbs, you'll need clamps for each fitting. If you use compression fittings, the compression cap is essentially your 'clamp'.

Make sense?

Yes, I know that. My question is....

What do I need for the pump? Because it looks like it has plastic molded barbs that are part of the pump itself. So do I just put clamps on the PUMP or does the pump also need compression fittings??

The D5 pump simply has molded 1/2" barbs- you'd need clamps for tubing over those. You could only use different fittings if you got a top to allow you to specify different sizes.

FYI- even though the D5 'barbs' are 1/2", they are a little wider than your typical 1/2" barbs, so just be aware when installing tubing over them. You might want to dip tubing ends into water to wet them in order to slide on easier.

Thank you!

No prob- as an owner of a D5 for over 5 years, it's been a fantastic pump for my use...still going quite strong.

one last thing...

Is there anything you would change?

Assuming this is for a CPU only build- pretty solid. Very similar to a Swiftech Ultima kit, but with a better reservoir (obviously).

(just noticed that Ultima kit has the 655-B version- no speed control. Not a huge deal, but I like it on mine...even though it's been set to '5' since day one.)

I like those compression fittings, I haven't seen them before...interesting.

Yea, the fittings are pretty cool. I think they are a fairly new design, because I can't seem to find any reviews, but I found a cool youtube vid shocasing them a bit...

I had looked at that Swiftech kit, but this custom set up is only a bit over $100 dollars more, and I get to pick all the colors and whatnot. :D

This is true and the reason we all build our own custom loops. :)
