i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz Reduce Clock Speed?

Forum Overclocking : CPUs i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz Reduce Clock Speed?

Hi I have an Acer Aspire 5950G with an i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz. I have been trying to figure out if I can reduce the clock speed (as fixed) to keep temperatures under control. Basically the laptop needs to go back for Warranty because the cooling fan has stopped working. However this will not happen for a few weeks because I'm away. The temps are fine when I'm doing not to intensive tasks *50C approx. But if I load a game they sky rocket to 90+ and if they go beyond 100 the laptop shuts down. I can control the temps by ensuring the game window is not always focused, but as you can imagine its a big pain trying to do so. My goal it just to reduce the clock speed so cooling can manage passively for now. Any suggestions?

I would not use it, You might be able to downclock by acessing your bios but I am unfamilar with that laptop.

I have used setfsb to overclock my laptop in the past, but setfsb does not always work with every chipset.

could also try throttlestop

If it was me I would send it in asap and wait for them to fix it or replace the heatsink fan myself, but that would void the warranty.

Hi Mate, Thankyou for the reply. I used ThrottleStop, and it worked like a charm.

You would have figured it out eventually, but glad I could help in expediting the process
