I am new to these forums so please bear with me. I recently built my custom PC and I would like to get the most out of the components that I bought because as I understand I will gain some fps at certain games. The system configuration is this: i7-2600k , MSI P67-G43 (B3) and Corsair Vengeance Blu 8 GB (2X4 GB) PC3-12800 1600mHz DDR3. I do have an EVGA card but I will use EVGA's Precision for OCing that. Also I would like to note that MSI OC Genie (automatic OCing program provided by MSI) does not work for a reason since it causes my PC to enter a boot-loop and I have to reset the motherboard every time. I made sure to get the Cooler Master Hyper 212 to handle the high temperatures after the potential OCing.
I understand that adjusting the settings manually through the BIOS is one of the best solutions since the system is much more stable. Any information regarding the OCing settings that work efficiently with these components is highly appreciated.
set everything to auto, boot up, go back to bios and record voltages. set the voltages manually to where auto put them.
increase multiplier by one click (highlight the multiplier and hit + on the numberpad),
stress test computer with a pcmark program or similar benchmark. (do these last two until you cant run the program anymore and your computer crashes.)
when your computer crashes go into the bios and raise the voltage on the corevoltage one or two clicks. benchmark to see if its stable. if not add more voltage if it is stable increase the multiplier. at a certant point you will need to add a lot more voltage to increase the multiplier. You can try to push past this to overclock further but you wont really need to especially since you can hit 4ghz on the sandy bridges easily and your build will not be CPU bottle-necked for a long time. but still after that dont raise your multiplier but instead increase your bus speed by one or two at a time. (this will also overclock your ram HT and bus so you may need to increase you HT voltage and NB/HT voltage)
Yeah there is more then that. U should leave bclk at 100. Don't ever use auto voltage. Set vcore to 1.2, set multi to 40. Enable llc. Not sure what settings ur bios has in regards to voltage regulation. Set ut ram timings manually or pick xmp profile.
