Hi all,

I am building and will be oc'ing this setup and wondered if anyone out there has tried this CPU or GPU for the upper limits of performance?
I would like to hear if anyone had suggestions for tweaking/oc'ing, etc.

8Z68 v pro gen 3 with i7 2700 @ 3.5
16GB Crucial ballistic
2 X 128 GB Crucial SSD M4
2 TB 7200rpm HDD
HIS 7950 GPU
ocz zx 1000 psu
Fri Ock CPU cooler

I've never heard of that PSU brand.

You should probably go with a corsair PSU. They make some decent PSU's.

If your going to be serious with overcloaking, you should probably have more then 1 fan.

Yes, 8 fans..2 120 mm front feeding cool in, 1 200 mm top heat out, 1 120 mm rear out, 2 on pcu cooler (frio Ock) , 1 pgu cooler, 1 on psu

IMHO - ocz psu's very good quality!
Anyone with success and stability with >5Mhz?

For now it will be a total of 8 dedicated and temp controlled fans from 80 mm to 200 mm, 2 are on cpu cooler, with an aggresive fan profile on all 8 for max cooling.
I will be keeping an eye on the temps. Liquid is always an alternative if temps get to high! Glad to have your input.

5 GHz is can certainly be accomplished with the better air coolers:

As for hardware choices......if this is a gaming box......

-The 2700 isn't gonna give you much .... the 2500k will likely hit the same OC as the 2700k

-16GB isn't gonna give ya a perceivable edge over 8Gb

-Twin SSD's is't gonna give ya an edge either other than benchmarks. Crucial M4 is a Tier 5 unit

For what it costs tho, you could get a 10.0 performance rating instead of 9.5

I'd consider investing more in GFX considering CF or SLI and less on the other components. Twin 6870's would cost ya $340 and get ya 701 fps..... the 7950 will get ya 603 ish. Twin 6870's would get ya 701 fps..... the 7950 will get ya 603 ish for $120 more.

Yes the 7950 / 7970 can be CF'd for bigger boost but at this point in time 4 of the games in Guru3D test suite either won't run in CF or have negative scaling. I'm "on hold" as far as the 79xx series goes until these issues Guru3D mentions get sorted out......"Crysis 2 would not scale whatsoever, we had a weird freeze in Far Cry 2, Lost Planet 2 was rather unstable, Dirt 2 showed massive corruption"

As for the redistribution of spending, for example, an 8GB system w/ a 2500k, 850 watter, single SSD and twin 560 Ti's will outperform (in gaming fps per Guru3D test suite) a 7950 system by 43% and a 7970 based system by 28% and be loads less expensive. Twin 900 Mhz 560 Ti's will cost ya only $430.

Now if ya running CS5, CAD, rendering, video editing, etc, throw everything above out the window.....the extra RAM, 2700k etc will help loads .... but I'd want nVidia for CUDA then....the 2nd SSD really brings no bonus unless you're a benchmark junkie
