Why is it that if I go Intel I have to buy a K unlocked CPU to over clock? I have been using AMD for 16 years and have never owned a unlocked cpu. Why can't I drive up the front side bus on Intel like I can do on AMD chips?
Because Intel chips have a single clock generator. If you change it, you change it for everything including the PCIe, PCI, RAM and everything else that needs a clock generator. For most of these things they can't handle more then a few extra megahertz before they don't work anymore.
