I will purchase two HD 7970s; does that mean I need to purchase a mobo that has two PCI Express Slots 3.0 x 16? If not, will this board below suffice?

There is another Asus board, but a few customers complained that the two GPUs were to compacted together and created overheating issues.

Any recommendations for brand name boards such as Gigabyte and Asus?

Thanks in advance.

Both of those boards will work. Also, a PCI-E 2.0 board will work too, but many LGA1155 boards are PCI-E 3.0 ready.

if you're going with an intel setup, look at EVGA mobos. gigabyte and asus are also really good though.

I personally love that Maximus Gene Z. It can do SLI/Crossfire and it's in mATX form, too.

The second choice is better I think.

Getting a mobo with 2x16 (x16/x16) slots would be best. I use this board and am happy with it for many reasons:

I've been currently using the Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 its a sleek board an my computer theme is blue an it clashes so well together with all the blue lighting an blue uv cables, but thats my own opinion on this board, people will probably stop going to AMD now seeming as they've gone down hill, But I'll always love AMD for their cheap processors, the board overclocks well, I've sstabilized my Phenom II X4 965 Black ed with 4.23Ghz, I'm very happy with this board, So I'd recommend this to any AMD user.
