Hiya

A few days a go I've overclocked my cpu from 2.6 to 3.4ghz and downloaded prime95 to test on it. I was wondering how does the prime95 torture test would count as a pass or a fail, since I have a quad core processor, when I ran the torture test for 4 hours, 3 of the cores had no errors, but one had an error and stopped after 17 mins, would that be count as a pass or a fail? If you have a core that fails, it is a fail. (But it really depends on how long)

Since it was only 17 minutes, that is definitely a fail. In my opinion, if it can last past 3-4 hours without a core stopping and no errors, then it's a pass.

Torture tests beat the *** out of your comp. Far more than any normal use could do. So subjecting your comp to 3 straight hours of this, and it holds it's ground without failing, is a pass in my books.

To re-iterate:

17 minutes and then a core stops is definitely a fail. None of yours cores should stop or error within 3-4 hours of torture test if your system is stable.

Next time you run the test, if you see a core stops......just stop the test. Because it is already over.

If one fails, it means one core may not be stable enough at the frequencies you have given the CPU. Either you can try go give your CPU a little more voltage (but keep it within safe margins) or reduce frequencies. If you don't do something very CPU intensive, you may try to run like this and see if it is stable in your normal use.

That is a fail.

You will want all cores functional for the duration of the test. 1 core failing may mean you need to increase your voltage however I would not recommend playing with voltage settings until you research what your cpu can handle, especially with an air cooler.

List the cpu and motherboard you have and I can probably provide better help.

I've already have my cpu voltage set in my BIOS to 1.45v, would it be safe to set it a bit higher? My multiplyier's maxed at 8x.
