FX 8120 Fan

Forum Overclocking : Heatsinks & Air Cooling FX 8120 Fan

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a CPU heatsink for my FX 8120. I am looking at the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo or the Coller Master V8. Will either or work? What is the best for cooling? Will either fit in a Rosewill Challenger Case with an M5A99X EVO Motherboard? I am using stock fan and overclocked to 3.9 GHz. Idle it is around 28 C and playing BF3 it goes up to 55 C. If I get either one, what would be the new temps.

Also, is Arctic Silver Arctic Alumnia good thermal paste for either of these CPU heatsinks?

Thank You.

The V8 is mediocre compared to the Evo or 212+.
The 212+ just fits in the Challenger.
The EVO is 1/2mm taller then the 212+ = should fit but idk for sure.
The supplied paste that's included with the 212+ and Evo is pretty good btw.

have you looked into the entry level water coolers? the H60/70, or the Antec Kuhler 620? they take up very little space over the cpu and cool very well. If not the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ would be my recommendation. the 212 evo is just an more expensive version of the 212+

I have looked at water cooling such as the H60, but I'm just worried that it will leak. Instead I decided to think more about the 212 Evo. I read and measured and it will just fit with no side fan. So if I'm at 30 C idle with stock, can anyone estimate the new idle and load temps for 212 Evo with a 2nd fan (along with the one supplied for push/pull configuration) and FX 8120.

Nice idea but nobody sells the matching EVO stock fan yet, other then the Coolermaster webstore.

Doesn't the heatsink come with adapters for any 120mm fan to connect on to the other side?

All i said, is you can't buy the matching fan anywhere other then the CM Store atm.
Never said, no, you can't use a 2nd fan.

if someones that worried about fans matching just order two matching 120mm ones for your pushpull instead of buying one different one lol

Yeah I just realized that and I just wanted to thank everyone for the help.

Just get the EVO and wait until the matching fan is released in the retail stream.
Newegg will probably have it first.
Push/pull will drop temps another 1-2C.

So if he was to add the second fan to the EVO would he have to buy a PWM splitter like this:

?

to be honest i havnt a clue on that one, id be running myne on a fan control at 25% all the time unless i know i was doing somethign then id raise it up based on how high i needed it
