[Solved] OCing using C1E and Cool n Quiet-Questions

Specs
Mobo - Asus M4A77TD AM3 latest BIOS
CPU - Phenom II x 4 925 Deneb 2.8

I have had the 925 up to 3.5ghz stable but voltage was set at 1.49 and temps were running a little high
55-58c in 68F room
with C1E disabled and CnQ disabled in mobo
ram manually set to 1333 and stock 9-9-9-24 timings

so I lowered down to 3.3 (235x14)
and set all other settings to auto
enabled CoolnQuiet and C1E
stable for hour of Prime95 testing
max temp in 71F room was 55c
according to HWinfo64 voltage went from low of 1.344 to 1.472 if that can be trusted
but frequency still stays at 3.3ghz
CnQ not working

I know I read that at lower OCs that CnQ can be enabled
I have had it OCd in past where CnQ was working at lower OC clocks
I have been through the BIOS and checked every setting
but cant seem to get it to work again

Does anybody have any hints,tips or tricks?

I just want to have a reasonable OC but still have some powersaving features
hopefully can keep temps lowered

any thoughts are appreciated

i was thinking that
I went back to my 3.4ghz 1.48v setting for now
I will try 3.2 and see if it works
I am willing to sacrifice 200mhz of speed for a cooler running CPU
when I get a better cooler than this stock AMD unit then I will play again with higher speeds

that is what I was exactly thinking
for the sake of 200mhz I am raising volts and temps
and the difference between 3.2 and 3.4 will really only be noticed in benchmarks LOL

well I tried 3.2 with all settings on auto and C1E and CnQ enabled and still locked at 3.2
and temps werent drastically lowered
so I went back to my original 3.4 setting
I am expecting a better CPU cooler
currently AMD OEM 80mm 140w dual heat pipe
should have a Zalman 92mm quad heat pipe in the next few weeks
and only Prime95 gets the temps over 50c
during gaming sessions they stay about 45-50c
and idles about 38-40c in a 68-70f house
so temps are okay for now
and on auto voltage it still goes up to 1.48 anyway
so might as well have it at 3.4

I was hoping to use the CnQ features and have a decent OC
I could be wrong but I remember doing it
but also getting older and memory isnt what it used to be

I will wait a day and then tomorrow select a Best Answer

I have it at 1.47 3.4 now
I know at 3.4 1.47 is lowest voltage it is stable
at 3.2 I only tried Auto and voltage still went up around 1.47
which was weird

i have played with voltage alot when doing 3.4 and 3.5
never could go below 1.47 no matter whatother settings
and usually set 1.48
i did read on many forums and Toms articles that the 9xx series Denebs are okay
up to 1.55
but AMD states 1.41 is safest top end
so of course having the voltage lowered would be better
that is why I am willing to sacrifice some mhz for lower voltage
I might try to do tonite
but helping my daughter with report on Booker T Washington
so Dad's experiments need to wait
I have read of guys takind 9xx Denebs up to 1.59 which is insane to me
I just got this CPU as a gift from a good friend and want to take care of it
I had a Core2Duo at 3ghz so at 3.2 quad I am still ahead of the game
it is actually more the temps worrying me also
AMD in 925 spec sheet list 55c-71c at max Tcase temperature
which is weird to give such a wide range
I rather not go over 55c too much
but that only happens while running Prime95
never goes over 50c during normal usage even video transcoding/rendering

BTW having a 720 unlocked at 3.5 is very impressive

hopefully with the Zalman 92mm quad pipe
I can be under 50c at 3.5
this AMD 80mm OEM of course is rather bad
and if you look at my config list I do have some decent case fans

is the 720 unlocked to all 4 cores?

good point
a four pipe 92mm low profile probably wont do it
but if I am hitting 55c-60c currently in a 70f room
hopefully I can keep it under 55c
maybe add a 5.25 bay intake fan also
I just built the tower in December so still playing with fan layout
I need to do a thread about case fan layouts also
I am a computer repair tech but always willing to learn
good at diagnosing/repair but when it comes to OCing I need advice
almost always deal with OEM towers
last time I OCd was an Athlon XP 1800 LOL

That is my bedtime reading for tonight
I did go up to 60-64c a couple of times
but since then havent gone over 60c
my goal is to not go over 55c in P95
I also know that temps never reach as high as P95
but my room temp can go up to 75-78F during summer
so trying to be safe
