My plans to get a new pc have crashed with the person buying my old pc pulling out.

I am now wanting to overclock my current pc.

cpu - q6600

motherboard - asus p5k

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/I [...] /#overview

Im very VERY new to overclocking, i know that the q6600 can be overclocked alot but basically im not sure how a) to do it correctly b) how far to push it with my setup.

Any advice would be great / or guides.

I have a Q6600 and used this guide, its a pretty famous post about how to overclock them:

Also, you're in some luck, he uses an Asus board, so you should be able to follow this really easily! Good luck. Got mine to be stable at 2.9, and I'm pretty new.

£22 - CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo - One of the best Price/Perf coolers ever.

Should get you to 3.6Ghz (Assuming the CPU itself is a good one)

The cooler isnt compatible with your motherboard?

Coolers don't really have compatibility issues with mobos - yours is a Skt LGA775, and the cooler supports this. Should be fine.
