I'm trying to get the best out of my CPU and I believe that I have the adequate components to OC a reasonable amount. My motherboard has OC'ing utilities that seem to have all the right items to adjust I just dont know where to start and am looking for pointers. Im currently running the following:
ASUS M5A88-V EVO AM3+ AMD 880G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM
HIS IceQ X Turbo H695QNT2G2M Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
ZALMAN CNPS12X 120mm Long Life Bearing High Performance Triple Fan CPU Cooler
What kind of settings should I be looking at to achieve ~4.5ghz? I've read up on OC'ing but want to be sure that I'm going about it the right way. Im really not "too" concerned about heat as my system at idle is running 8-14c and on bf3 ultra settings its 32-40 on the high end.
You should be just fine with that board and that chip. I was able to overclock my FX-8120 @4.2GHz without touching the stock volts. Just make sure if you have a LLC (load line calibration) option set it to very high or ultra, this will assist with keeping your power supply from suffering severe Vdroop.
