Forum Overclocking : CPUs I7 & RAM Frequency

I'm having trouble getting a stable overclock on an i7-920. I've had the system for about two years, but just decided to give overclocking a try. My problem is this: I able to achieve a stable overclock at stock voltages (150 bclk) with the RAM frequency set as low as possible. As soon as I raise the RAM to 1600mhz (for which it is rated) the overclock failed (and took my windows installation with it).

The RAM is stable at 1600mhz with the CPU at stock settings.

Is this simply an issue of raising the QPI/VTT?

Thanks,

Yeah, I've read the guides.

They all say lower the RAM Frequency, get a stable overclock, then set the RAM back up to normal and assume everything will work. When I set the RAM back to normal it crashes.
