Overclocking 1055t

Forum Overclocking : AMD Overclocking 1055t

Word :    Username :

Hey guys i wanted to ask if i could overclock this system to about 3.7 Ghz for gaming purposes.
Specs:

Procesor:AMD Phenom II X6 1055t
Graphic card:ATI radeon HD 5570
Motherboard:GA-880GM-USB3
8 GB RAM Rip jaw
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
My case has 6 fans. 2 big ones (about the size of my palm) and other 4 are regular.
The stock settings of my X6 are 2.8 Ghz
And if someone could state a guide or a video for help onto overclock since i am new to it it would mean alot
thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

Your mobo isn't very good for overclock but we can try to get a little more of your CPU. What cooler do you have for that CPU? A better can give you better performance too.

You are using the stock cooling, that's not good for overclock your CPU and keep good temps. You need something better, like the cooler in the link.

So... I went today and bought a new graphics card but anyway the technician told me overclocking was dangerous and that his proccesor stopped working and said that it lowers the lifetime. Anyways could you suggest me a decent budget-freindly cooler??

Reply to Racoon

I would recommend the Hyper 212 Evo. I have one on my 1055T @ 3.5GHz and it keeps it nice and cool. Can overclock higher just haven't yet.

Wrong, it's right that you can damage the CPU but if you do it in the proper way your CPU will work without problems for many years. The idea of a new and better CPU cooler is keep the temps as lower as possible, in that way you can overclock higher BUT always keeping the CPU voltage in a safe range.

What exactly budget do you have? The Hyper 212 EVO is good cooler to start.

I have 40 bucks available for a cooler. whats the price of it and if it isn't enough could you please recommend me a cheaper one??

Reply to Racoon

And is it compatible with my processor? Will it fit?

This is a solid option: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/ [...] g40c14s881

Fit without problems with your CPU but let me know 1st what RAM do you have.

Ok i have 2 RipJawz RAM sticks. Toda when i went to get my PC they recommended me to buy A Ice matrix 400.http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2573
Will it fit my PC? and is it worth the money? im getting it for 30 bucks

Reply to Racoon

Yeah, that fit in your PC but I prefer the Hyper 212 EVO. What case do you have?

It is a little better than than than the hyper 212 at cooling but a bit louder. It depends on what your want. Does your case have a side fan blowing onto your motherboard? When overclocking it is best to have good ventilation to to push air in and out to keep everthing cool. Also if you could give us your case model or measure its width from its front or rear we could find out if it fits. Once you get all this done this guide will help you with overclocking your cpu. http://www.overclockers.com/forums [...] p?t=596023

To test if your max temps are safe and cpu stability use prime95 software, for temperature measurement use core temp software. Use the 64 bit version of prime95 and make sure to use "small fft" when testing for cpu core stability. Use "large fft" if you decide to overclock your cpu-nb. You'll probably be able to get your cpu core to 3.8ghz to 4ghz at 1.45 volts. You may be able to go higher but make sure when using prime95 that you don't go above 55c. And like I said before make sure your motherboard has ventilation, especially a side fan blowing air to it.

Reply to phyrexiancure

I have a sentey case, Its the Renegade(look "Sentey Renegade" in google)
It has a big Fan in the top and the side. The side one blows into the mobo(or evacuastes air out of the mobo, Im not sure) and the other one on the top blows into the whole case. In total it has 4 fans. 2 big ones (size of my palm) and 2 regular ones

Reply to Racoon

I'd check dimensions before get the cooler, the side fan can be a problem with the cooler.

The width of the CPU is 20 cm And with the fan it would be around 18.5(exagerating)

Reply to Racoon

The cooler (Hyper 212 EVO) needs around ~190mm clearance for installation, check the wide dimension of your case, add the fan dimension and see if you can install the cooler inside.

How do i get the clearance out of the matrix??

Reply to Racoon

Sentey Renegade 525mm x 205mm x 500mm (with feet)

Reply to nnorton44

Thanks man. Now how do you get the clearance out of the matrix?

Reply to Racoon

I got the dimensions out of the matrix. 153 x 73.5 x 160mm
But i do still have one question. What is the Maximum safe tempreature for my X6 to reach?

Reply to Racoon

I would not go above 55ºC on overclock.

Reply to Racoon

Read about the FSB or reference clock and the relation with all frequencies of your rig. After that let me know.

I dont want to sound like a lazy ass but i simply cant find any information about it

Reply to Racoon

Not problem man, we are here for help you.

The CPU frequency is calculated using two things:

1) The reference clock or FSB, this is always running at 200MHz and
2) The multiplier, this can or can't be locked. What that means locked and unlocked?

a) Locked multiplier: This means that your CPU only can be overclocked using the FSB or reference clock and not the multiplier.
b) Unlocked multiplier: This means that your CPU can be overclocked using both, CPU multiplier or FSB. This models are marked on AMD with the famous BE (black edition) while on Intel are marked with the K (as the i7-2600k).

So, now you maybe are thinking. What's the difference?. Here we go.

While the FSB is related with all the other frequencies in your rig (CPU frequency, DRAM frequency, NB frequency and HT frequency) the multiplier only change the CPU frequency. Difficult to understand? Not problem, is better with an example.

-------------

In our 1st scenario we will use the multiplier to overclock an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE paired with a 1600MHz RAM, remember that this CPU is clocked at 3.2GHz stock. NB (North Bridge) and HT (HyperTransport) always run at 2000MHz on "Auto" configuration.

1) Stock CPU: 200MHz * x16 = 3200MHz > Stock frequency. DRAM frequency, NB and HT frequencies keeps "Auto"
2) Overclock CPU:200MHz * x20 = 4000MHz > Overclocked frequency. DRAM frequency, NB and HT frequencies keeps "Auto"

Easy way (in theory), you only change one thing and only the CPU frequency change in your rig. Now move on to the 2nd scenario.

-------------

In our 2nd scenario we will use the FSB to overclock an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE paired with a 1600MHz RAM, remember that this CPU is clocked at 3.2GHz stock. NB (North Bridge) and HT (HyperTransport) always run at 2000MHz on "Auto" configuration.

1) Stock CPU: 200MHz * x16 = 3200MHz > Stock frequency. DRAM frequency, NB and HT frequencies keeps "Auto"
2) Overclock CPU:250MHz * x16 = 4000MHz > Overclocked frequency. BUT in this case, the DRAM frequency, NB and HT frequencies also change. The new DRAM frequency is 2000mhz (250MHz * 8), the NB frequency will be 2500MHz (250 * 10) and the new HT frequency will be 2500MHz (250 * 10)

The "problem" here is easy, if you change the FSB you change all frequencies in your rig and not only the CPU frequency.

--------------

Now that you know a little more about the FSB on AMD, remember this: Your CPU is locked, so, you need use the FSB for overclock. Try to keep the DRAM, NB and HT frequencies the most possible at stock. This is it DRAM at stock manufacturer frequency and 2000MHz for NB and HT.

Start in little steps and test the rig for stability with programs like LinX or prime95 for around two hours or more. Let me know if your need more help.

P.D. Sorry for the long post and the mistakes, English isn't my native language.

Yeah try and set the multipliers so that your NB/HT are close to 2000MHz, HT never higher than NB.

Reply to nnorton44

Ok i understood everything.In summary
For a unlocked processor you just raise the multiplier frequency
And for a locked one you just raise DRAM NB and HT rigth?

1) Correct, for unlocked processors you only rise the multiplier.
2) Not really, for locked processor you rise the FSB BUT also try to keep the DRAM, NB and HT at stock speeds.

Ok i understand. So to overclock locked multipliers you need to raise the reference clock or FSB But try to keep the DRAM NB and HT at stock speeds.
Now may i ask: When you raise the reference clock does the DRAM,NB and HT raise aswell automaticly or they dont? Cause if they do then my overclocking would be limited to keeping that three things close to stock speeds
this is the same question as above but summarized. When i raise the FSB does the DRAM NB HT rise or they keep the same?

1) Correct, when you rise the FSB the DRAM, NB and HT frequencies rise automatically. Those also have a multiplier, so, not problem.

Example may help you:
3.64GHz FSB 260x14 / NB-HT 260x8(2080MHz) / RAM 260x(Depends what RAM you have)

Reply to nnorton44

So now how can i rise the the FSB? And saint19 you told me to tell you when i learned about FSB and rigs and how it affects. Now could you tell me?

That's, start to rise the FSB in little steps while you try to keep the other things at stock frequency.
