Forum Overclocking : Heatsinks & Air Cooling Should I change it? HELP!

I am currently running a stock heat sink from my Athlon x4 64... Its a piece of junk, but my buddy has a heat sink form the Phenom X6 T and I can get it off him for like 10 bucks. I was wondering how many degrees would I drop from the stock to that one, or am I better of buying a Hyper 212+ for 40 bucks after shipping...?

Thanks

You'd be better of going with that Hyper 212+ for $40, always go aftermarket over stock when possible. And the Phenom II X6 heatsinks are better in a marginal sense, they added two copper heatpipes, but it's still really the same design, you won't see much of a drop if any by switching from a stock heatsink over to yet another stock heatsink.

Still would be an quite good upgrade for 10 bucks I would think

Maybe if it was for $1-$5, not worth it for $10 imo for another stock heatsink. It would still be best to go for an aftermarket heatsink.

CDude55 is correct. Going from one stock heatsink to another might at best give you a drop of 2 or 3 degrees. Totally not worth it.

on a budget id go with a 212 evo or 212 plus, heatsink to heatsink isnt going to make much of a differnce

SUPRIZE it dropped me a whole 10 degrees

i still would have went with a 212 if that heatsink dropped it 10 a 212 would have dropped it more
