.....the AMD processor in my computer: CQ5826? (stock mobo)
yes, this is not a joke and yes, i am a noob when it comes to the nuts and bolts of computer hardware. however, i do want to learn, which is why i ask my question
...anyways back on track...I have seen that specific processor overclocked to 3.8 GHz just by modifying the front side bus and nothing else, however, it was not on the stock mobo i have. so, is it possible?
You can't or atleast you are very limited to what you can overclock with OEM machines. If you want to overclock, by a new motherboard that supports overcloking. OEM manufacturers lock down there BIOS so you can't overclock and potentially break it.

It is not a good idea to use software overclocking. There is many issues with it and the motherboard might not be able to keep the specification of overclocking and thus causing massive instability problems, with the possiblity of killing your whole computer.
As the others have mentioned you will require a motherboard that can overclock.
