Forum Overclocking : AMD How to unlock AMD Phenom II x4 p940 in HP DV7 4167CA

Hi there,
I'm somewhat new to this, I have overclocked systems in the past, but never a laptop. I have an HP dv7 4167ca that is just out of warranty and i've read that this processor is underclocked to help with heat and power consuption. I was hoping to overclock it to around 2.2 or so, I am using CPU-Z and AMD Overdrive to monitor temps. However i can't seem to gain access to anything other than CPU voltage which I haven't touched.

Any suggestions on how to unlock the multipler? OR is there a faster CPU i can use with this mother board?

I have updated the BIOS to the most recent.

Thanks
Matt.

very rare for a OEM (HP,Dell etc) to have any kind of OCing BIOS
some Dell XPSs can be OCd but that is all I know of
I am sorry but I dont think you can OC it
you might be able to change CPUs
as long as the CPU isnt embedded (soldered into mobo)
when I have more time I will research it for you
(wife in hospital-playing MR MOM right now-later tonite will have more time)

Can't unlock the multiplier, Bios lacks any OC ability
But even if you could there one big problem,
Unless you plan using it outside in winter, there be no way to properly cool it, hence the subject of OC laptop is limited

Good Luck Mr. Mom! (and I hope it's nothing to serious with your wife!)

Oh and thanks, I read lots but it didn't occure to me that most of your guys would be using built systems with motherboards and therefore BIOS's that can be OC'd.

there is a chance of upgrading to faster CPU
just can be difficult with a laptop
I will definitly check into it for you
you have a chance of using something like a PHII x 4 965
but not sure into I look it up
problem is with OEMs that the mobo might support it
but they lock out higher end CPUs with the BIOS
by the end of the day today I will hopefully have an answer back

also wifey has had cervical cancer then bleeding blood vessel in brain then seizures then stroke
but she is on the road to recovery with the help of some great doctors and many many prayers :)
