I know there are other threads out there for the same question on what memory is best suited for the i7-920 system.
I will be overclocking this and I do hope to reach 4.0-4.2Ghz and my current RAM modules are quite limiting.
P.S. multiplier is from 19-21
So I am wondering on a few things. I have heard that i could use dual channel RAM just as long as I have 3 sticks of the same thing. Also they are about 1.5V. Would the G Skill Sniper modules work on the X58 board with their 1.25V?
So currently I'm looking at the following RAM due to price and availability in my location.
RAM is not dual channel. The motherboard and CPU are dual, triple, or quad channel depending on the CPU.
That is why RAM is sold in sets of 2, 3, or 4. For an X58 board, I would just buy a good set of three DDR3-1333 modules. In terms of performance, faster will just be a waste of money.
You shouldn't be limited too much when overclocking while using 1333 MHz RAM. I've
had the i7 920 for over two years @ 3.8 GHz solid. Has done me very well and still kicks ass for what I need!
