Hello~!

I have built my own pc's for a long time but this is my first time over clocking. I have done alot of reading on the subject but don't have enough experience behind me to know if my voltages are even in the ball park and I'm also really confused with manually setting the memory timings. So to start of I will give you the the info of where I am at right now.

MOBO: EVGA 750i SLI FTW
Heatsink/Fan: CoolerMaster Hyper101
Memory: OCZ PC2-6400 P/NCZ2P10662G

I shot for 3.0GHZ today with intentions of finding something stable as my base. Getting it there i learned I have absouletly zero clue withe memory timings and if my cpu voltages are in the right area. To top it off the motherboard has some auto FSB/dram thing that makes the memory even more complicated to me.

Here is what I have for CPU Settings and Idle Temps. (I Prime95ed this and ran for 4 hours without errors

If you have any advice and could give me some realistic expectations that would be great! Thanks guys!

I have the same chip, similar board, 790i FTW.

You should be able to hit 3.0ghz by simply changing FSB from 266 to 333 and nothing else. You can leave memory timings, voltages, etc on AUTO and hit this. I have mine at 3.6 ghz, but takes a decent vcore voltage bump to get there, but still within green settings.

Set everything to AUTO, change your FSB from 266 to 333 and see what you get...shouldn't need anything more than that.

I actually made it pretty far after this post. My goal was also 3.6 but I had to take vcore to 1.5 to even get prime to to run and crash in 2mins.

I'm not sure if I have something quite right.

If you want 3.6, you need to up the FSB Volts, RAM volts, Northbridge Volts etc etc.

RAM Voltage limit is around 2.3v for DDR2 (I like to keep mine at 2.1v)
I would suggest upping the Northbridge by around 0.15v
And the FSB should be going up to 1.4v or 1.45.

Give these numbers a go and see if you can hit 3.6Ghz with 1.4v on the CPU.

I had to use 1.47500v to run 10+ runs of Intel Burn Test with stability on my Q6600 G0. This was higher than I wanted, but it was the magic number that went from failing after 1-2 runs of IBT to running as many as I wanted with success.

However, if you don't care about that, you can likely get there with a setting likely as low as 1.3500 or so. I didn't up my RAM voltage at all and bumped my NB volts a bit.

Memory settings are limiting your overclock.

Take your memory off Auto and try setting to Linked. That will put your FSB:RAM ratio at 1:1 and reduce the demand on your memory. That should be all you need to do for 3.33 GHz (367 MHz X 9). Anything higher is a crapshoot depending upon your individual CPU, cooling, and case.

Max core voltage is 1.50 volts. Max core temp is about 70 C.

I ended up getting 3.2 with a 8x multi and 400fsb

My heat sink would of never cut it going higher. I also have memory running 1:1 now.

I had a high VID on the chip of 1.3250 and it took 1.4 vcore to stay stable.
