I am using a m5a87 and have oc'ed a 1155t to 3.836ghz with a Zalman air cooler. I have a new m5a88-vevo and was wondering will the m5a88-vevo OC better or should l take it back and get a m5a97evo, m5a99x evo or spend the money and get the Sabertooth. I want the new UEFI bios, so that leaves the m5a 97, 99 and Sabertooth in the running; with the Sabertooth being the only one with 8/2 phase power. There is Gigabyte but what mobo has the UEFI. Will be buying the Sabertooth very soon for $190.00 unless there is an alternative. Any advice.

get m5a99x evo ... all modern mobo Am3+ support UEFI BIOS , it's easy get 3.8GHz with 1055T but u wrote 1155t (wth???) :)

Sorry l meant 1055T. Thanks. Cannot get m5a99x evo in Cambridge ON (home town). I am returning m5a88-vevo(no UEFI BIOS) so l will exchange for Sabertooth as the m5a97 evo is special order and they don't stock the m5a99x evo. The Sabertooth is over kill for me, but if you figure the travel and gas used, the Sabertooth is economical for me. Then when l go to over clock it, l will need some guidance as how to proceed so l can reach 3.8 to 4.0 ghz. Hope you can help. Thanks

I am using a m5a87 and have oc'ed a 1055T to 3.836ghz with a Zalman air cooler. Failed in Prime95. Will be getting 1 more 120 mm fan for the Zalman so to have 2 fans on the unit.

I got the Sabertooth installed the 1055T and OC'ed it to 3722.7mhz ran prime 95 64 bit ran stable but hot. 60 Celsius after 15 minutes. Using the Zalman cnps 10x with a NZXT fan at about 2500rpm. Had to stop the test as the temp was still rising. cpu 1.50v, HT LINK 1861.3 mhz disabled turbo also. FSB 265.9 *14 multiplier. I left all the other settings on auto. Any ideas besides water cooling. Thanks.

wow 1.5 for 3.7 v ???? it's too high actually 1.44v for 3.8ghz (fsb 271 x X14)
first Go back default your setting and find max oc your cpu :
- set manual voltage (sellect limit 0.25v)
- raise FSB to 250
- drop ratio ram to 3:8 (1066) and your ram will get 667 (8-8-8-21)
- raise voltage ram sellect smallest +0.15
- everything still auto / enabled except some need disabled : cnq, spread spectrum, turbo core, C1E
- see in CPUID 3.5ghz with vcore 1.32 v
this first for find max oc your cpu without adding voltage CPU
- in 3.8ghz ( 270 x X14 ) just raise vcore at 1.4 - 1.44
- drop NBvid : 1800/1600mhz or if your mobo strong keep auto your HT at 2800 (max speed NB)
- raise smallest / auto NB volt

and i think Zalman can hadle it to 3.8ghz :)

Reply to henydiah

I got it to 3.8ghz and it runs stable in prime 95 but dosen't want to go into sleep mode and all 6 cores will spike every min or so.

Ok l did all that and got to 3.8ghz running good. What is cnq? I raised smallest / auto NB volt by one increment l am not at 1.2v yet. Getting to 4ghz is going to be a lot tougher for me because l am unsure what to do next. Thanks for all your help getting me to 3.8ghz.

CnQ is saving feature power management . and what is kind your setting in 3.8ghz ?
- vcore/NB/NBVID/RAM/RAM VOLTAGE/HTLINK ?
- temperature under stress Prime95 ?
- Stable ?

vdd pcie--auto(1.100)

Cannot find my NBvid? CPU-Z shows HT Link 1903.4mhz and NB frequency 1903.4mhz. Memory Timings--DRAM frequency 725.1mhz and the timings are 9-9-9-24-25-1T.
That is pretty much all the Specs that l have off this new BIOS and CPU-Z.
Temperature under stress using Prime 95 is 57c to 59c after 1/2 hour stays no higher than 59c but that might rise in 2 hours? Windows 7 64bit is running stable. The only thing l noticed was that Windows will not come out of sleep mode, l have to hit the reset button and then l get a screen Resuming Windows and it takes about 3 to 4 minutes to be fully operational.
Thanks for any help in advance. Bruce.

i think you can't get 4ghz because under 3.8Ghz close to 57C and CPU voltage 1.404v

here setting for 4Ghz but it's all depend your system :
set RAM voltage to manual add to 1.6v-1.62v / (0.15 - 0.30 )
set ratio Ram to 3:8 (1066) for stabillity
increase FSB to 281 , Up CPU voltage to 1.42 - 1.45 V or more

Ram voltage on auto
Ram ratio 3:8 ddr3 1524mhz
HT link speed --2002mhz CPU-Z shows 2008mhz
CPU/NB frequency--2002 mhz
Vcore--1.452 and while doing prime 95 1.50v to 1.512v
Core frequency is 4015.7 Mhz runs stable in prime but it gets hot, with one Enthusiast fan on the Zalman CNPS10X Performa. l will need water cooling:yes.
I have been using DVD flick for hours and the temp went no higher than 46c on the CPU and the vcore stayed at 1.464v.
Do l need to be concerned about the vcore-1 and vcore-2 temps.
Do you know how to post a screen shot on Toms Hardware?
How high can l take the voltage on vcore for 24/7 use?
I tried to help K2viruS but he has a Crosshair lV Formula with older and different BIOS. Hope he can get his system overclocked.
I also saw a screen shot of CPU-Z of your cpu running at around 4.5Ghz that you don't run all the time, nice.
Thanks for taking the time to help me. Bruce.

if you disable 2 core you will get 4ghz with vcore 1.404
- and yes .. yes you should be worried about the high temperature and it will speed up decrease the lifetime of the CPU
- You must register on photobucket or photo-sharing website www.photobucket.com
- high voltage may actually have provided adequate huge CPU cooling such as Noctua NHD /H100 or higher like LN, and ... look at the overclocking competition, how they raise the Vcore to achieve the desired speed ? everithing high voltage ! make me scare ... But for the beginer not allowed for a higher than specified by AMD 1.45v and it is a safe limit for the voltage

it's good setting if stable .. test your OC use Prime95 4hours and get pass , i can say it's stable but You have to watch it if the temperature more than 60C - 63C you should stop or reduce the overclock and voltage, so to keep the CPU lifetime

I changed the Digi+VRM back to default and left everything on auto except cpu bus freq, mem freq and vcore.
Here is a screen shot after about 90 minutes.

Very stable and the temp well which one do you use?

I have seen, the CPU very cold temperatures well below 60C and is used as a reference. whereas Core1 and core 2 so is relatively ... why is that because you have just shown 6core and 2 only ... I have more confidence with the CPU temperature shown. :)

I just noticed today that when l oc to 3900mhz that my dual channel memory becomes single channel. Why is my mem turning into single channel. Help please.

Reply to jewals11

u still run at dual channel, cpu-z just show u 1 RAM .. it's fine
