Forum Overclocking : AMD How much is my overcloacking capacity

Word :    Username :

my specs

asus m488t-m motherboard
amd x4 965 3.4 ghz
msi amd hd 6850
coolermaster extreame psu 600 W
cooler master hyper 212 plus cpu cooler
corsair (4gb x 2 ) 8gb ram
cooler master elite 430 cabinet with 4 fans

i completed bf3 with high setting in easy mode with auto video setting ,,
now playing again with high difficulty mode with ultra setting since i could not see any difference in changing from high to ultra i went for overcloacking
it works good up to 3.8 GHz (using amd override)
my gpu is factory over clocked to 800 MHz from 775 MHz i use after-burn for (815 mhz->core clock and 1025 mhz-> memory clock)

but wen i set my CPU to 4 or little higher i get a blue screen within 2 minutes of playing the game ( i saw the temp went max only to 47 )

is 3.8 the limit or should i do something to change it ??
i at least expect 4 GHz over clocking and dats y i got a CM hyper 212 :(

Did you increase your Vcore voltage?

There is a similar thread that you should read:

Bump the vcore up until you find stability...at 4.0 GHz I had to get the vcore up to 1.5v...My 965 BE reached 4.3 GHz stable, although I had to increase vcore substantially to 1.56v which is above max voltage for the chip...So it is all in how hard you want to push it....Maximum vcore on the 965BE C3 is 1.55v..Maximum tempeture is 62c

I'd say that max safe temp before problems is 55ÂșC

My maximum "safe" temp for myself is 57c for the AMD BE chips

if you want to know the limit then here it is

and to know how to do that then read some post here

The limit it completely dependent on your individual chip.

If you're BSODing, up the Vcore, I wouldn't go higher than 1.5ish for 24/7 use, and keep the temps under ~55c. I wouldn't expect 4GHz+ though.

wen i set my CPU as shown in the screen shot

i get a blue screen as soon as i start running stress test ( with prime 95)

my system is stable at 3.9 GHz, temp 47

my normal (default ) setup ( i.e without over-clocking )

is there any possibility to achieve 4 GHz here ????

^If you stop to use that software and start to use the BIOS, maybe you can get the 4GHz

Oh geez lose the software OC and you can get 4 no problem..By using the BIOS...Man I wish AOD didn't exist

Yeah, they should focus on BD and not on software.

ohk ill try from bios and then post :)

hey!

I just broke the 4ghz barrier with 1055t! I agree with others.. don't use the software from windows.. almost a guranteed crash there...

Also, it is true to increase your core voltage manually in bios.. but don't go to high.. mine is set at 1.48 for my chip but our chips are different.

Also keep in mind northbridge and memory settings.. you may need to set these manually as well. You don't want to fry your northbridge. Sometimes leaving settings on AUTO can hurt you. I suggest searching google to see if you can find an article with your exact chip... might save some headaches if you know a few settings that were stable for others.

From what Iv'e read, all chips are not created equal.. some have enormous overclocking potential while others do not.

good luck!
