Corsair Vengeance Low Profile DDR3-1600... does not overclock at all!!

Forum Overclocking : Memory Corsair Vengeance Low Profile DDR3-1600... does not overclock at all!!

Hey guys,

just put together my new system two days ago and started tweaking it. Started off with my 2500k and is now at 4.6GHz with voltages at 1.288V under load (offset mode) (is that good? lol)

Then moved on to my RAM, which is a Corsair Vengeance Low Profile DDR3-1600 rated at 1.5V 9 9 9 24 timings. This RAM doesnt overclock AT ALL or I'm doing something terribly wrong... I've tried 1866 at up to 11-11-11-27 and 1.7 V and it still wouldn''t POST.... tried also lowering the timings at 1.7V is POSTS but fails memtest at ddr3 1600.... unbelievable..... do other vengeance owners experience this? it is so weird because I read the reviews online and they seemed like they were good overclockers specially with these funky sinks and whatnot...

System Specs:

i5 2500K @ 4.6GHz @ 1.288v with H100 cooler
ASUS P8Z68 V-Pro GEN3
XFX 6950 1GB
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile DDR3-1600
1TB WD green
HAF-X with all red led fans
HX 1050 PSU

Im pretty sure your overclock is good, it's better than mine at least , im at 1.36 volts for 4.5ghz...

don't raise your ram voltage that high bro.... the tiny benefits aren't worth the risks!

Ram overclocking does not provide any tangible performance increase.....unless you know for a fact the program you want to use requires faster ram... in that case you would have bought faster ram.

If you still want to ... do not raise ram voltage above 1.65 volts, Ideally you should stick with the default 1.5v though.

I know the performance increase in minimal, but it's just the overclocker in me that does not want to shut up lol...

It still would not hurt to overclock it, which again brings me back to my main point: am I doing something wrong here or have I missed something? Because this corsair memory is supposed to be a decent overclocker at the very least yet it's acting like any cheap generic memory that will not respond to anything but its rated specs...

And about the voltage yea I'm not gonna exceed 1.65 at all, I was just trying to test what it takes to run it at 1866. Right now it's back to stock settings. I hope people who own the same corsair kits share their experiences..

Yes, I know the feeling. I also once was young. But after a while, you learn that some things are just not a productive use of time. Overclocking RAM in a Core2 or i5/i7 system is one of them. :)

About whether you are doing something wrong, without looking at all of your settings, I don't know.

Just wanna chime in that O/Cing ram in a core 2 system is very worth it. I went from 3900 to 4700+ in 3dmark11 from solely ram OC. (benched overnight memtest stable.)

English is not my native language.

I have a 2600K manualy set to 100 * 40 and 100 * 45 @ 1.33V with load line calibration to extreme. Mobo Asus P8Z68 deluxe gen 3.

I use exactly this corsair vengence low profile (black modules) 1600mhz ram 9 9 9 24 timings / 1.5V. 4Go * four sticks = 16Go.

I get few (but not on all pass) memtest86+ v4.20 errors at 1600MHz and XMP/Stock manualy set timings and voltage !!!

At 1333Mhz -> no errors, never. It's very CRAP for 1600MHz Corsair memory !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must make some test @ 1.65 V and VCCIO = 1.2V

I found that slight increase in ram voltage will stabilize cpu oc.
And yes u'll see higher scores in benches if u oc ur ram but in real world .. not so much.
Stay with factory settings.

Read in some review those corsairs did 1694 mhz so ur atempt at 1866 is probably just a plain and simple no go.
