Forum Overclocking : Intel Win7 64bit

I been messing around with overclocking a little. I know the basics on overclocking but that is about all.
I have motherboard asus P5G41C-M LX which is the 775 socket still. With a intel q9450. 2.66ghz. Because there is no vcore adjustments. Top speed I can overclock is 3.1ghz. Anything after that it will not boot up.

So I decided 3.0ghz is fine. It's solid with no issues. In bios I have c1e enabled which is fine. But I also decided to try speedstep enabled. Restart and win7 shows 2.67ghz. If I disable speedstep in bios and start win7 is shows 3.0ghz.

So is windows down tuning the speed because of speedstep enabled somehow? Or where is it getting the 2.67ghz from? Wither I have speedstep enabled or disabled. I can go in bios and is shows 3012mhz...

are you adjusting the multiplier just to be safe, coz if you overclock in any other manner it wont show up inside windows

I was tinkering around with the asus overclocker in bios. Instead of manual changing FSB to 375.. I decided to try the 5% 10% 15% 20%..... Well 15% works. 20% does not boot. Maybe it's vcore voltage. Or my kingston 1066 ddr3 ram. Not sure. But currectly running at 3.05 ghz with no issue. Cpu temp after running world of warcraft is at 34C. With speedstep enabled in bios. Windows shows the cpu at 2.67ghz. So I downloaded Cpuz.. And with WOW running. I watched cpuz and it changed my multiplier switch from x6 to x8 then running at 3.05ghz. So I think it's working fine. It's just windows will not see it correctly with speedstep enabled. Which I can live with. I can see that the cpuz shows 3.05 max so it's there or working.

I think 2.66ghz by 20% would be around 3.2ghz. Wish it would work. But thats ok, 3ghz seems decent. It's running same temp as the factory setting of 2.66ghz that was also 34C with world of warcraft.
