Forum Windows XP : Configuration & Customization Ethernet adapter Wireless network connection - media state - media disconnected

Hi, I could use a little help! I started up my computer yesterday to discover that my internet connection was not working (I'm using a Dell Vostro 1500 with Windows XP since my HP was recently stolen). It is working on my roommate's computer, and there is no issue with the wireless signal.

Upon trying to connect, the computer doesn't seem to be able to acquire an IP address. I've done some troubleshooting (unplugging/replugging the modem/router, making sure I'm using Windows to configure my wireless connection, restarting the Wireless Zero Configuration, etc.), but nothing has worked.

I've tried manually renewing the IP address in command mode, but when I type ipconfig, I get the following message:

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Configuration:
Media State...................................Media disconnected

I'm not sure what the next step should be. Any advice?

Thank you!

Does the wifi configuration show that you are connected to the router?
