Forum Overclocking : Intel I think i might have a good 2600k???

i have been looking at some cpu-z validations and it seems like i have a decent chip cause as we speak im running 1.312-1.32 volts in cpu-z at 4.6ghz and 63* and it seems to me like most cant run that low especially on air. i can boot and run a cinebench r11 at 5 ghz with temps below 72ish* at 1.46. it seems like a have a good chip since it takes most people about 1.5 to get to 5ghz.

i must be missing something.

Sounds great! But it also sounds like you haven't run, say, Prime95 overnight yet.

yep sure have except for the 5ghz i just ran benchs. prolly wouldnt pass lol

Run prime95 for 24h before you celebrate too much. But getting past benchmarks is always a nice start, gives you a few bragging rights to.

why would anyone need to run prime for 24 hours? if it passes prime for an hour and doesnt crash playing games and rendering then why would it matter if if could or couldnt pass for 24hours. i think 24 hours is a bit extreme.

For some folks a belt, suspenders, *and* a rope are good ideas. I could reverse the question to you: If your 5 GHz pased the bench, but (in your words) probably wouldn't pass 1 hour on P95 . . . What establishes one hour of P95 as enough? Why not 30 min? 15? 8 hours? 24?

I have to admit I prolly wouldn't go beyond overnight myself, so I'm not really criticizing *your* choices.

But I can understand those who would want to quickly prove a rock-solid OC with one, straight-thru 24 hour run rather than to find out next week you get a blue screen or memory-related errors running some other stuff.

1 hour is just too short, most people game for more than 1 hour, render for more than 1 hour, it's fine when you're still nearing down settings but once you get something you think is stable, test it for longer. Most would usually say a minimum of 8 hours or overnight, this would give enough time to run multiple test in blend.

its on the box on the bar code label, theres batch lists on certain sites that have batch number and best overclocks

I think the progress you have made in the past 3 weeks is impressive!

Don't allow others to rain on your parade by setting yourself up in a thread like this!

It comes across as bragging about you having a better quality batch chip, which makes others jealous that they cannot seem to get the same from theirs.

The difference being the missing details of just how each is arriving at their overclocks to get there, may very well be the reasons they're not seeing the same as you are.

And make sure you are taking advice from those at least running the same platform as you and overclocking the same as you, there is a major difference in attaining stability between a simple, raised multi/vcore overclock vs a locked multiplier raised FSB overclock involving juggling multiple voltages to stabilize it.

As far as Prime95 stress testing time regarding an unlocked multiplier overclock, 24hrs is not necessary!

You additionally need to add some benchmark testing that at least includes graphics, or you'll be bragging about 24hrs of prime95 and crashing 1 hour into your favorite 3D game that brings graphics and sound to the playing field, which P95 does not test.

If you're a firm brainwashed believer that 24hrs of P95 is a set in stone rule for an unlocked multiplier overclock then run P95 for 1 hr past the longest time you'll run your computer, but don't forget the benchmarking so you're not crashing in games.

thanks 4ryan6, my progress is only because of your help. the mobo change made all the difference and now i have been running @4.6 and 1.320 volts for 3 days and not a single crash.

batch # L129B691

thanks for all the help though guys. this overclocking stuff is just too much fun.

Who has these batch numbers? I saw a few forums with people posting batches starting with L... mines an 3126c250
