So... Have you guys managed to overclock your CPU in the range of 4 ghz? If so, what processor, voltage, and max temps? Also, what cooling method are you doing? Air, Water? What brand of cooler?

Core i7 930 @ 4.0 ghz @1.256 V/ min temp: 38C max: 75C

Air Cooling/ Prolimatech Megahalems w/ two fans in push, pull config

I've gotten up to 4.2 ghz, but decided to back it off. I just decided to stop OC'ing it. It simply took more voltage than I wanted to give it...

That's true. But I was kinda wondering what kind of practical results people were getting. Quite a few cpus can get high overclocks if your willing to send your voltage through the roof. I could hit 3.8 on my old core 2 quad, but I would have to send my voltage WAYYYYYY higher than was safe for the CPU, so I decided to keep it at 3.4 ghz... You guys can post both if you want, just make sure to state whether it was a stable OC or not.

4.0 on an i7-920 DO on a CM V8 heatsink @1.275 volts. Ran stable with idling temps around 35 degrees C which I didn't like. So, after a few days, I backed it down to 3.83 GHz, left the voltage at 1.275 and now idling temps are around 30 degrees with an ambient of 23 degrees.

Intel 2500K Sandy Bridge highest OC so far 5.0ghz

Voltages are for me to know and you to discover on your own except for the CPU-Z 2500K validation below.

Great OC jsc! I respect your rank and expertise, and I understand stress tests, prime95, and also 'multiple environmental over-stress' used in products' design and manufacturing.

Except in a lab or research environment, why would someone run prime95 for extended periods of time? I ran it for about 15 minutes just to satisfy myself. (I also understand that components could and do fail during stress tests).

And I did 4.3ghz on an i5 750 - not 100% stable, but stable enough to run 3DMark11 and get it validated (see sig). For actually stable, 4.2ghz I think. Definitely did 4.13 stable. Daily I'm just a touch over 4.

I use the BIOS profile feature to manage several different BIOS profiles which can be selected from menu at boot time.

920 in Asus R2E w/ 6GB CAS6 DDR3-1600 and Prolimatech Megahalems / IC Diamond 7 Karat
Everyday Profile - 3.8 GHz @ 1.1125 Vcore / 1.5825 DRAM ...max temps in mid-hi 50's, other BIOS settings all defaults
Gaming Profile - 4.0 Ghz ....don't remember voltages, max core at 72C, minor BIOS edits , HT Off
Extreme profile - 4.2 Ghz ....don't remember voltages, max core at 74C, BIOS heavily edited, HT on

i7-2600 in Asus WS Revolution w/ 8GB CAS 7 DDR3-1600 and Thermalright Silver Arrow / Shin Etsu 751
Everyday Profile - 4.4 GHz ...don't remember voltages (saved on other machine), max temps in mid-hi 50's, other BIOS settings all defaults
Gaming Profile - 4.8 Ghz, 1.4 Vcore ....temp range 69-79C, other BIOS settings all defaults .... still playing .... build machine right before spring break as B'day present for son, haven't got chance to tweak it yet. Gonna let machine "break in" a bit before tackling again.

Did get the GFX cards (pair of Asus 560 Ti CU II TOP's - 900MHz) well OC'd ... tested first 10 1000 MHz (no voltage tweak req'd), tested 2nd to 980 Mhz (1.075 volts) and hadda go to a family function.

Yes, 4.2GHz, AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition Deneb, 1.48v core, ~53C max during stress tests. I'm using a Corsair Hydro H70 water cooler.

The core speed is great, but I noticed a much bigger performance jump with raising CPU-NB freq. I'm only running it at 2.4GHz CPU-NB, but can keep it stable up to 2.74GHz CPU-NB (everything else same as now). The problem is with warm room temp it gets up to 59C (high for that chip) during stress testing or 56C with a cooler room. I also wasn't really seeing any additional performance in games, already basically capped at what the ones I play atm are capable of.

topped out @ 84c WITH prime95 going. Using a corsair h60.front 2 intake and top exhaust were set to low so im thinking if i added a dab more shin etsu and switched fans to high itd get a few c cooler.

im running 4.5GHz @ 1.35v 24/7

I know the Intel voltage spec of 1.502 or something like that for the i7-2600K, but I read some posters advising against anything over 1.350 volts. (Sorry, can't locate the source).

Palit GTX 570 Sonic (925 core, 1850 shader, 4200 memory) 1.100v

The system runs at the above settings 24/7, gets rebooted approximately once a week, and is only powered down when absolutely necessary (hardware upgrades and thunderstorms mainly). Einstein@Home is constantly running, loading all four CPU cores plus the GPU using CUDA even when I'm not actively using the system.

Note: For most overclockers, I do not recommend running the CPU voltage higher than 1.4v for an everyday overclock. I fully accept that my CPU will likely die an early death due to excessive voltage, and when it does I will simply buy a new one.

I had a Msi P67a-Gd65 pretty good board for OCing I just had to increas the Multiplier and leave cstates and eist on and it what power up and down max stable running multiple tests up to 4.3GHZ with not wanting much more and being content with the OC.

When I built my kids PC I took the Z68 board from the combo kit because it more features I needed and that Board is a great Oc'r but it is a whole other beast to overclock. I played around for days and read many forum post to achieve 4.5ghz under my max OC profile. I didn't want to go any further especially with the vcore hitting 1.4 to be stable
I consider myself just above Novice Over clocker more less average and i am satisfied with my current sig results.

i5 760, 4.16Ghz, 198Mhz FSB using Zalman CNPS 10x Flex with Orion 12cm fan. I usually don't break 55C, but it will hit 60C in stress testing. This was tested at 1.4V, but I have slowly been bringing that down. Currently at 1.35

I'm on an i5-750 and I just can't reach 4.0 and keep it stable. Have tried just about everything and had to give up. I'll just have to live with 3.8.

i5 2500K OC'd to 4.7 GHZ stable and I'm using Biostar TZ68A+RCH mobo, CM 212 hyper plus push/pull fan. Vcore is 1.375 V. Idle temp is 35-37 degrees celsius at full load the temp is 55-60 degrees celsius, PC case: CM HAF 932 advanced edition. PSU: OCZ Modxsteam Pro 700 watts. RAM: 16 GB G-skill ripjaws X-series 1600 MHZ.

I have an AMD 960T I can get all 6 cores at 4.0 using 20 X 200 FSB. Voltage is 1.475 temp is 55C. Using a Zalman CNPS 9900Max.
I am currently testing an overclock with 4 cores at 4.224 GHz. 16.5 x 256 FSB. Same voltage, temps at 44C.

UPDATE: D'oh! Ofcourse as soon as I post it failed. now testing 4.096 GHz. 16 x 256 FSB...

i5-2500k @ 4.5 GHz with Vcore 1.344 V. Air cooling with CM 212 evo. Idle temp 36 degree Celsius, maximum load 76 degree Celsius.

I managed to get a phenom ii x4 840 to 4ghz with voltage set at 1.550. Using a XSPC water-cooling kit. Can run p95 for quite a long time 10-12 hours and still be pretty stable with the temp hitting about 44-48. I only oc to 3.8ghz now with the voltage at 1.425 because i want my cpu to last a bit longer, if it makes a difference anyway...

I wouldn't want to risk going over 1.55v. That seems crazy for 4GHz.

4.2ghz@1.55v on amd phenom 2 1090t with stock cooling
not tested for stability and max temp as i have only stock cooler.
that oc is to see if my it ca hit above 4 on my board or not
theoretically 1.54v is min to make this cpu stable at 4.2, 1.5v is min to make it boot to windows and 1.475v to make it post.

it is providing me more than enough horsepower in cpu side, so i am running it at stock setting at undervolt (3.2ghz@1.175v tcb off) to keep it cool to 20'C at stock cooling

Stable: 4.3Ghz @ ~1.30v using offset + voltage.

Stable after 24 hours P95 blend test, 20 standard passes IBT and 10 maximum passes IBT.

Temps peaked at 65-66'c under P95 and 73-74'c under IBT. Average idle temps ~35'c.

My answer is "No, on an AMD CPU." But I don't see that option.

I'm limited to ~3.4 on my 1045t due to weak cooling. But I experimented with higher clock speeds / voltages and 4Ghz is a no go for this particular chip.

(3.8 - 3.9 seemed doable, with better cooling though)
