I have a ASRock M3A770DE with a AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition I'm trying to unlock the cores. I go to ACC in the bios and pick per core or any of the other options and it still shows 2 cores. Is there anything else I need to change or maybe my Processor is unlockable?

Phenom II X4 955 is a quad core processor. There are no cores to unlock.

Why does it only show 2 cores in CPUZ? I've read that people have unlocked the extra cores with the same specs. I'm really confused now.

Edit: After reading some more, they where other CPUs like the X3 or AthlonII. But still I have seen images of CPUZ of my X4 955 that shows 4 cores, mine only shows 2 and in the images the cache box shows 4x64, mine shows 2x64 mine. Below is a image of what I'm talking about. Is there something in the bios I need to change to get the cache to show 4x64. Thanks

I think you need to get some glasses, the cpu-z screenshot you posted CLEARLY shows 4 cores and 4 threads.

Really you should lay off whatever your smoking.

I have glasses and have'nt smoked anything, (lately) If you read my post it says, Below is a image of what I'm talking about. That is a image I got off the net of someone elses with the same CPU as mine, it is not mine. Mine reads 2 cores and 2 threads like I typed, sorry if I did'nt make myself clear, it was late when I was typing it.

You never mentioned you were posting screenshots from someone elses computer, sorry I forgot my crystal ball today.

Hit cntrl+alt+del, go to task manager, then the performance tab.

How many cpu graphs does it show under "cpu usage"?

If only 2 graphs, you cold also try going into device manager, uninstall the cpu and reboot.

OR

Go to MSconfig>boot>advanced options and tell me how many cores are showing there. I don't have a Win7 machine in front of me so I don't know what the options are there. Maybe you can change it to 4 and then reboot and recheck. If you can't figure it out tell me what the options are there.

Did you eve read his post? He's only showing 2 cores in cpu-z.

Those screenshots are not from his computer, they are from someone elses. Yeah I know, why would you post someone elses. Don't know. Guess he didn't think to show his own cpu-z screenshot. lol

Yeah I guess it threw me off since I looked at the cpu-z under the assumption that they were his screenies...OP Why would you post someone elses cpu-z? BTW....go to msconfig--->boot--->advanced options--->select number of processors should be 4-->restart

I got the same Phenom II x4 955 on the same AsRock A770DE MB with 4GB DDR3 1600.
With some programs it seemed I was only getting one core running until I changed System Configuration's Advanced Boot Options to 4 cores. Go to: Administrative Tools/System Configuration/Boot, select Advanced Options, check Number of Processors option, scroll down to 4. If you can't find Administrative Tools try enabling it in your Start Menu Options. Right-Click on open Start Menu for options, just the menu itself not one of it's shortcuts. If you can't find Start Menu Options you need to do some research before messing with anything.

I don't have the option for 3 and 4 cores in System Configuration Advanced Boot Options, only 1 and 2. In task manager under the proformance tab it only show 2 graphs. In Device manager it shows 4 - X4 955 Processors (4 not a fat finger it shows 4) I've uninstalled all 4 Processors in device manger and windows reinstalls them when I boot backup. CPU-Z still only shows 2 cores. I just got this setup and windows (32 bit) is not a fresh install, I used my old hard drive. My old system was a Intel 2.5 E5200 dual core on a Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 R2.0 motherboard. I'm sorry if I did'nt explain things right, I'll try and be more careful. Aleast I gave you a laugh, it's good to laugh you know. :> )

Re-install Cool and Quiet...looks like you may have a corrupt driver

Reply to lowjack989

The only thing I installed off the CD that came with the mb was the lan drivers, read some where that was all I needed the rest was alot of junk, was that a mistake? how do I reinstall Cool and Quiet? I don't see it anywhere on the CD.

Never tried loading up Windows from an old Intel MB to a new AMD setup but seems like it could cause some issues in Windows.
which BIOS version? never had this type of problem with AsRock MB through 3 different of their boards. did switch an Athlon dual-core for my Phenom quad-core and didn't have any problem.
Format C: and reinstall everything?
Return processor?

pretty easy to backup all your settings and files using Windows but with this type of problem you may have to be careful what you replace after reinstall, it could lead back to this same setting, same problem. I always zip up my whole "Users" folder with Winzip so I can pick and choose one at a time which settings and files to replace after the reinstall. You'll have access to most of your files, saved games, and program settings for after you reinstall them.

Yes that was a mistake. You need to install all the drivers on the cd, not just lan. Chipset, audio, lan, there usually is a install package that contains all of them at once. It's the utilities that someone told you were junk, not the drivers.

This is likely your problem.

I was JK with that GObonzo, do appreciate all. I'm still having problems though, getting random BSOD. stop 0x8000000000000002, 0x0 bugchecks. When I reinstalled Win 7 I put in 64 bit, might of been a mistake, what you running? Which slots you have your ram in, I have mine in the white, manual said to get 1600 run in white, but still shows 1600 if I have them in the blue. Gonna change to 11.3 ATI drivers and see if that helps, read 11.4 are alittle buggy. One other thing, my mouse gets sluggish after awhile of surfing, does'nt do it while gaming just surfing the net.

Reply to Bubba0

One other question, do you have cool and quite enabled?

Reply to Bubba0

no, i used it for a short time but it was making the system really unstable with this motherboard. i use a program called K10STAT that does the same type thing but you can set the different speeds and voltages for your cores as you want them. you can run 4 different power states like Cool & Quiet but you can customize. here's a good tutorial [http://unfusedjournal.blogspot.com/2011/02/k10stat-tutorial.html]. not jus for underclocking like most guides you'll find. i use it for my overclocking too so i don't have to wait for the bios everytime i want to change something. you can find download links searching google, probably even on here. newest version is 1.4.1, i think.

I've had it enabled, just turned it off this morning, maybe thats why I was getting random BSOD. I'll run it like this and see what happens. I'll check that link out. Thanks

i had same problem and no pain way is: Administrative Tools/System Configuration/Boot, select Advanced Options, UNCHEK Number of Processors option, reboot...enjoy :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: :kaola: :kaola:
