For WinXP, 2GB or more of RAM is "enough" and a faster CPU will help more. For Vista, it helps to have 3GB RAM or more.

If you are not using your computer for intense calculation with something in the like of Mathlab, Processor speed is more important especially today when the lowest memory bar is 1 gig.
