Sorry for sounding like a newb here but i am a little confused.

the Phenom II 940 and uh, 810 (i think) can run on either an am2 or am3 mobo because they support both DDR2 and DDR3

the Phenom II 710 and 720 will only run on an AM3 because they only support DDR3.

am i correct?

no, all am3 cpu's backwards compatible with am2+ sockets, but am2+ cpu's such as the 940 wont be able to run in an am3 socket.

Ok, that sort of makes sense. Your explanation does, and i trust it, i just wonder why AMD would make their top tier quad cores only available on AM2+... you would think they would make them usable with DDR3.. but *shrug*

So what i need to to is find out which asus board i have, look up the specs, then i will know if i can handle the P II 720 BE

Thanks for the reply, it helps =D
