Computer went BANG :(

Forum CPU & Components : Power Supplies, Cases & Mods Computer went BANG :(

Word :    Username :

Hello.

I turned my computer on by the mains plug this morning and soon as i turned it on the computer went BANG, smelt of burning and a bit of smoke came out. After this, i was annoyed as my computer had been running fine for months now.
Anyway, after i looked inside my pc and checked everything, the motherboard light was on, but the PSU smelt of burning.

Has anyone got any ideas on this or do i need a new PSU? I dont want to ruin any other components.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127861 - i was wondering if this PSU would be good enough to run my system with 2x XFX 9600GT in SLI.
(system specs below)

Thanks.

The new PSU that you have given has enough power to run 2 9600GT...

Thank you.

Do you know of any other good power supplies for around £60?

But for you setup even a high quality 500W PSU with proper connectors would be suffice...
Get brands like Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, PCP&C...Just check it has 2 6-pin PCIe power connectors to power the 9600GT SLI...

That OCZ is also a very good PSU...it can easily run that setup...Actually it can run even 2 9800GT...

oh good.

is it worth paying an extra £10 for this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152506

Thanks.

Well that PSU is an overkill...
As I had said for your current setup, even a 500W PSU should do fine...And even that 600W is too much...
The 700W PSUs are only good if you want to run say GTX 260 SLI with an highly overclocked CPU...

Thanks.
Do you have any recomendations for one at £60 or under as i would like a decent one for as little as possible.

Well that OCZ one is a very good choice...
Go ahead and get that one...It would have some headroom for further upgrade too...

The corsair like I said is the best choice...but even the OCZ can easily do the job...

^ Well the best would be that you get your PC tested by a computer technician, as I cant help just by giving some links or suggestions (I dont like playing with other people h/w :P)...
