i've got me self an i7, and i like the energysaver, but, i'm wonder how much performance i'm loosing if i'm running a game, as far as i see it, there has to be a performance loss, else the lower power would be default.

but i can't find anything about that, so hoping someone has some experience or numbers they can throw at me.

Actually Core i7 is not exactly an energy saver. At load, Core i7 can consume a lot more than 100W, which is already more than most of the Intel quad cores out there.

Techreport can demonstrate:

However, the performance you get is also unparalleled.

I believe that he has the windows power setting set to power saver mode, which IIRC locks the CPU in its lowest multiplier.

In essence, that turns your i7 into a 1.6GHz processor.

The i7 is not really ment to SAVE power, because it is a POWER HOUSE. haha. Really the best you can do is set the windows power saver mode to conserver power, and do not OC your chip so that Speedstep downclocks it when the CPU is not in use.

How to conserve power with an i7:
Step1: shut it down when you are not using it.
Step2: repeat step 1 the next time PC is not in use.

haha.

I havn't set my power settings to powersaver, and the graph didn't really explain what i was asking, maybe i didn't do it right.

What i wanna know is, how much diffrence in performance is there if i play a game with gigabytes energysaver turned on, or turned off.

I just noticed that i forgot to mention that the energysaver was a program from gigabyte, sorry.

But yeah, changing from my p4 630 made a noticable diffrence. :)

Maybe i should ask diffrently.

Maybe i should ask, does anyone know about how much performance loss you should exspect using app's for power saving, ex. gigabytes energysaver.

have anyone made an article or test around that?
