Intel ICH8/965 "Resources not avalible?!"

Forum Motherboards & Memory : MSI-Microstar Intel ICH8/965 "Resources not avalible?!"

Ok first of all greetings I am new here.

Recently purchased a MSI P965neo-F V2, set it up and everything works just fine. With the exception of, in the device mangler, Windows XP home, it will show a exclamation point in yellow... I know this is just a warning...

The device is the Intel (R) ICH8 Family PCI Express root Port 1 - 283F

When I click on this it will say..

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

The only thing I have on PCI Express is the video card, and that seems to be working just fine.

So whats the scoop? Do I just ignore it, or is there something I can do to the thing to make it work properly?

Did you install the Intel drivers? If not, download the latest ones from Intel.

Yes, I downloaded several utilities from Intel saying that the replace the INF files , Intel chipset Identification utility, so forth.. I shall delve into it more here and see what I can come up with but I think I have exhausted the resource at Intel.

But you only require the drivers at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fi [...] submit=Go!

If you haven't already done so, select #2 to download it, install it and reboot the PC.

Ok , Yes, it looks like I have done this already. I downloaded
.INF Update Utility - Primarily for IntelĀ® 4, 3, 900... SIGH* Well, its time to get serious about this. I understand what the combination 965/ICH8 does, in the old days we used to call it a "Handler" - a device that sorts out all of the I/O stuff. Granted a pretty laymen description of it.

Ok I have been inside and out of Intel, the next step would be to Visit MSI's website I know for a fact I have the latest BIOS on the system AMI BIOS A7235IMS V3.8 11/2007 Will ask around on there and see if there are any additional fixes and contact tech support and interface with them.

Thanks for your support..

Hey, just wondering if you found a fix? My friends laptop (Toshiba Equium P200 with Vista and the dual core pentium version) has this error with P65 Express and I can't find any information on it to fix it, this is the closest I've came. Any updates? Cheers.

The solution that I came up with , was this..

When I got this new board I just plugged it in and fired it up, I didn't do a clean install,
Windows XP is a great operating system for finding what it needs, and for the most part found all the drivers it needed for everything.. with the exception of the 965/ICH8 .. or it loaded it but there was trouble using it..

With this warning message, everything worked just fine, however; me being a technogeek that has to have everything working just right with no warnings in device mangler.. I had to find out why..

Solution:

If you have updated all the Intel , and you still get the warning. you have little choice... Do a clean install.. This is what cleared the warning for me..
