I have a secondary computer that has a 4870 X2. And for some reason, the monitor would suddenly just say that there is no input. First you'd see a pink artifacting then go to no input.

The temps are around 70 idle, so I don't think thats out of the ordinary. And I don't game on the secondary so I don't think the card becoming hotter is the issue...but it might be.

Any Ideas? I think its the card, but I hate RMA ing it, I just want to try everything before sending it in, or swapping it.

Thank You

2 things...

A) What watt is your PSU
B) 70 at idle is not good (I have a 4870x2 and it runs 42* at idle and 60ish under load)

I never looked at it underload though. Its a small case so I don't kno what it could be...

Heya Liquid , try turning up the fan speed on the 4870X2 and lower your oc just a tad and see if it makes a difference.

Reply to Monsta

fan is on 100% I think OC is stock by Palit already:S

I got it because its hooked up to a 1920x1080 TV, and when I have lan parties I use it for gaming the. other than that it just sits there and collects dust. Plus I was going to use it in my main unit, but it wasn't a significant enough boost to switch over to it.

I Opened the side and now its at 56 idle and it just turned off the monitor.

Thats very strange, does it hang or just blink on and off?
Have you tried the 8.10 drivers?

idles around 70 with 100% fan, wtf, that thing must be a jet engine.

LOL.
I laughed.
Something's definitely wrong with it idling at 70, unless it's really hot where you live.

That would be a neat trick since today is the first day of the month and ATi usually doesn't release the new driver till mid month. Only driver avalible is 8.9

Reply to stoner133

no it blinks off I try moving the mouse it doesn't come back. I try clicking and I can hear stuff going on.

I restart the computer and it works fine...

cat 8.9 are the ones that I have installed. It was working fine up until yesturday.

sigh.

I don't think its the heat prob because these card are supposed to be in working shape even at 90+ so I dunno.

mainly its the dual GPUs I don't kno why.

I mean it worked perfectly well on Monday when my gf played sims2 on it. I'm just going to the store to exchange it.

Even if thats not the prob I've got nothing to lose other than time. It could be the motherboard...

To much trial and error

Yeah thats true theres alot of posts of people having problems with them. Best to RMA it and be sure, goodluck mate.

@ Monsta

I already tried a different monitor cable and power cables. I don't want to install Beta leaked drivers, I only do it if I kno it fixes a major issue with the previous driver thats affecting me in game or otherwise. In this case, the driver was installed for a while and I doubt its related.

these beta drivers are supposed to bring a lot of improvements + stability, it could be worth it, there's always rollback

Reply to rangers

I'll give em a try tomorow, I'm going to exchange the card directly at the store so I'll find out both what the problem is and if the card will scale better.

yeah I read they run alot cooler than the GX2s, so thats why I was shocked.

The room is temporarly ventilated by an AC, I have no windows until I remove the AC (I have 4windows 2 of which can't open and are only for light to shine int he room, and 1 which holds the A/C)

I leave the AC on either just fan or full AC alll the time, so there is always air getting in.

So I'm going to exchange the card 2morrow and posts up the thermals of the new 1 (if its the card and not the mobo).

Printer useage
By fihart, 1 day ago:

Most go into sleep mode which presumably saves power and the printer starts more quickly than if it runs through the test routines usual when first powering up. I always turn my printer off after use -- but then I don't do much printing.
