Hello there,

I'm planning to buy a new gaming computer in the next few weeks. I already have the speakers, keyboard & mouse, the screen and I also have a 500 watts power supply (who is maybe obsolete). I've also a 8800gt that I bought for 130$ which I wish to keep for the moment or maybe selling it to get a better card like the 4850 (or something like that). I don't wish to oc.

So what do you suggest? I'm not planning to buy Vista I'm going to keep XP for the moment. I'd like to buy the parts with future upgrades in mind.

I'm thinking about a q4500 for the cpu, but I'm not sure if I should put more money for a q9550, maybe someone could enlighten me?

Thanks for your tips.

For less than 1000, you can build a pretty good system including a new 4850.

P5Q Pro MB
4850
Q9550
RAM
hard drive
PSU
Case

That comes to about 1K before tax/shipping/rebates... if it's too much shave down the CPU a bit.

Well uh could you list the parts or something I don't have the knowledge about if that part can run those parts and like.

Let's say a 4850 is about 400$ and q5500 also 400$ it's already 800$ without the case, the ram, the HDs... So could you list me what you're thinking, I'm curious. I'm in Canada btw maybe the price aren't like in the US.

Ah 1000 Canadian... ya that's different.

change to E8400 for your budget, then see what kind of matches to that list you can find at tigerdirect or NCIX.

i bought my card from directcanada.com. but $400 is still $100 too much even for a 4870. it should be around $300. the performance difference is about 30% if i remember correctly. the 4850 is the better buy in terms of price/performance though. but the 4850 is best for lower resolutions, pretty much anything under 1920x1200.

4870 is easily in budget. Get an HD4870 and a decent Core 2 CPU then just overclock it!!
