I read the review and I'm not going to go out and replace my 4870 512 for the 1gb version. But if I didn't already have a 4870 and was looking to get one, I would go for the 1gb version with no hesitation.

I wonder what will NVIDIA do as a response to this new ATI offering ...

I'm in the same situation. Luckily I only have a 22" monitor so I will not need the 1 Gb version in the near future. As for the nVidia response... I guess another price drop is in order, so everyone wins.

I wonder why they are using 8,7 catalyst though...

Cause 8.8 and 8.9 don't bring much to the table gaming-wise. Only fixes and compatability issues on CF and X2's.

8.6+hot fixes and 8.7 are the ones with driver "goodies" from what it read on the notes. I have 8.8 cause it has a video fix thingy that i wanted :P

Esop!

lets not be mistaken... only at high resolutions which im sure only a handful of gamers play on, and its still only a minimal increase.. a 512 for $260 on 1gb for $300? for about 5 frames? i don't know, if i was a frame junky than sure.. otherwise.. not so much

just give it 2 weeks and ull see that price come down...
damn im impressed with ATI they are doing a very good job...
every thing nvidia does they respond with something better, the gtx 260
216 cores is not better than than 4870 anymore :D...
i would pay the $40 dollars extra anyways...

Again, they are using a really old Nvidia driver to test performance with... Sad.

Looks like ATI just took a 4870, gave it a new naming scheme, added 512mb, and are selling it for $xx more. Bunch of money sucking whores.

Anyways, it seems the double memory gave some unexpected results, this must be the power of GDDR5. And apparently ATI already had an answer to the GTX 260 216 in the works, ala this. At least on higher resolutions. It even beats the GTX 280 in a few of those test.

If I hadn't bought a 3870x2 last February, I would have gotten a 4870. Too bad the one gig version didn't arrive standard from day one.

If it is 20-30 bux like they said, i would purchase the 1gb one; however, I have looked and the difference are about 50 and higher. Marginal profit of performance is equal to marginal price difference. I personally do not think that 1 of this card will drop their price;however, I believe that BOTH card will drop price at the same time and about the same price drop too. ATI has always been great in marketing.

How could I go from the king of RockN'Roll to this

Well, the extra RAM will prove useful in future games. The only game that seems to really make use of it right now is GRID, love that game ^_^.

What about spending the extra $ on this http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=166 and then OCing ??
Would it be a better performer ? (and it would be the same cash!)

Im myself thinking about that...
