Are you using it for gaming? Because if you are, it is not a good choice. It is not a gaming card. It is old. Try the ATI 4000 series. 4850 is you are on a budget

The ATI HD3300 is not old, in fact it is quite new. It is the integrated graphics on 790GX mobos. All I've seen is that it is better than Intel's newest integrated graphics, but that's not saying much.
Is it up to a 7300GT? 6600? I think that's the gist of the original question, and I'd also like the answer. Hopefully Cleeve or GGA will check in...

There is ALWAYS a drone. Exactly where, or how many drones you will encounter may vary, but that there will be at least one will not.

Why the 790GX Chipset? The 780G Chipset should be just fine for HTPC.
Much Cheaper, still comes with HDMI, and the 3200 GPU is still good.

If its good in theory but not in practice,
its not good theory.

Think of it as a crippled HD3400. It does alot of good HD/AV features, but if you want a truly kick-ass HTPC then getting the dual-stream decoding and 7.1 HD audio support of the HD4K series is nice. Just not in intergrated systems yet.

However as a basis for an HTPC with the option of upgrading once the HD44xx series comes out, it's a good inexpensive stepping stone to get you most of the way there. It's not a great gamer, but it will handle single stream HD content and 5.1 DTS audio just fine. Not really much difference between the 780 & 790 other than slightly faster which would be more for other apps, and even then just a tiny diff.

Basically it's about the level of a 3470, maybe a little faster if your motherboard has the option dedicated RAM for it. Taking that into account you're looking at something on the level of an nVidia 8200, 7600GS, or Radeon X1650.

GF7600GS would be a terrible choice, and only the GF8200/300 would be a worthy candidate for a modern HTPC from nV, although with a little less features (although some have support for HD audio). As for the X1650, it wouldn't give you H.264 and VC-1 acceleration to the same level of the HD3300/780G-790GX, the 780G outperforms an X1900 or GF7900 for BR playback offloading most of the processing tasks.
