Hi all,

I've got my PC two years ago and haven't updated it since. I've got:

Intel Core Duo 6600
2Gb ram
Radeon X1900XTX 512 Mb
Antec NeoPower 550 w(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103941)

I want to buy a new video card and I am trying to decide between the updated gtx260 (216 stream processors http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 814130400) the older gtx 260 (192 sp) or amd's HD4870. From what I've read the nvidia seems to be a bit better, but it seems to me I'll need a new power supply for that card. While if I go for the 4870 I won't need one. Considering that most games seem to be nvidia biased I am leaning more towards it.
My question is: is it worth going for the nvidia and upgrade my power(which I'll need in case of future upgrades) and selling my old PS or going for the cheaper upgrade with the 4870?

I would get the gtx260. Your power supply may handle it, but I would upgrade it to be safe and to futureproof it for any other upgrades.

I say go with the 4870, specifically this overclocked version from diamond

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814103064

The stocked clocked 260s have greatly dropped in price thanks to competition from the 4870 so it's generally a little bit cheaper now and thus a good buy depending on the games you want to play. Check out the charts here and compare the 260 to the 4870. If the 260 wins out in the games you care about then I say get it. Overall though it the ranking of the three cards is 260 < 4870 < 260 core 216, and that goes for performance as well as price.
