Hi guys im pretty new to overclocking, i was hoping some of you will be able to give me tips on overclocking my intel q8200. I currently got it oc to 2.8 ghz im hoping to get it up to 3.o ghz . Currently my idle temps are 37c and under load it peaks at 55c. Anybody have any rough guide of how much vcore voltage i would need to get to 3.0ghz, im currently at 1.25v. My system specs are as follows. I haven't done any change to my bios, i use msi's dual core center software to do my overclocking and voltage tweaks.

Intel Q8200 @2.8ghz
4gb DDR2-667 RAM
MSI P45 neo3 mobo
1gb ATi 4870 780/970

IIRC, try something else aside from pushing past 1.25V. What is your PSU?

I have an acbel 540w psu. Turns out my system wasnt stable at 2.8 ghz. Worked fine all of yesterday but today within 10 minutes of starting up i got a blue screen. So clocked it down at 2.73 which i was running before for a few months.

I have a Q8200 and highly regret getting it. Can not get a decent stable overclock.
It just sucks. With my Q9550 I just change the FSB to 400 and BAM! Stable overclock without doing anything else. With the Q8200, when I change the FSB to 400, BSOD. Right now I have it stable at 2.5 GHz. Anything higher and it locks up once in a while. I've tried a sorts of voltages and ram timings. Piece of crap.

Yea i know its pretty bad, but checking around online seems like speeds of 3-3.2 ghz are possible, I just don't know what to do to get there.

This forum is kinda discouraging -- you can overclock the Q8200 and here is some stable results, I just wanted to see how much further others have gotten.

Definitely I can push my CPU more just wanted to keep voltages as low as i can.

I used both an Asus P45 mobo and now i'm on an Asus X48 and have plenty of room to push voltages.

I think one key thing the overclockers at Tom's has done wrong with their review is to limit their RAM ... their FSB to DRAM ratio was like 1:2 .... what were they thinking...

this is an old thread but it shouldn't end one sided!
