I would say option 2 with q6600, possibly exchanging p45 for x38/48 board for possible tri/quad crossfire upgrade in the future. It's more cost effective to upgrade that way so your existing card isn't wasted.

Starcraft 2, like most major future games, will be quad optimized. And 4.5+ on e8600 is shaky despite capable motherboard. Benchmarkers do it, but you shouldn't. The 45nm process chip does not tolerate vcore well. The voltage you'd need to achieve stable 4.5+ghz is dangerous for day to day operation no matter how you cool it. You risk sudden death at such clock rate. Benchmarkers have done 5ghz on liquid cooling before, but they're rich and don't need to actually use their computer. And no matter how you oc it the dual chip will still lag behind quad on multithreaded applications.

Nehalem is initially quad with ht (8 threads) with octo with ht (16 threads) on the way. Current Kentsfield/Yorkfield is quad without ht (4 threads), Harpertown (such as e8600) is dual without ht (2 threads). The future is multithreaded. E8600 does not stand a chance, no matter the clock rate.

Threads and cores dont mean ship until Apps become optimized for threads. When that day comes all the above will be outdated anyhow.

I checked out these parts. what do you think? will these be better for you than those?

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 2 sets of those and you got 4GB. Im not sure of how well that RAM works with the Mobo but another similarly priced RAM Set will do.

GPU: 4870

You mentioned that you have a $1500 budget. Those 4 parts come out to to a little under $800 after rebates. So that means that you still have $600 to spend on the Case, PSU, OS, DVD, and HDD. I dont think that will break your budget by more than 50 bucks after you add in the rest. But i might be wrong. I don't know what case, HDD and etc that you have so i cant determine that.

Lol, it would work just as well, if not better than your new rigs, if you just add a second 4870 in cf. You're going to lose money by selling.
