So, after looking at different setups for well over a year now, I`ve got a good grip on te parts I want. I`m just lost as far as compatability and the likes( as well as a little worried if something goes wrong when I turn it on)

I`ll be running vista64bit. Would all this work correctly together? I would be going crossfire after I work up the funds for a second 4870.

edit: I`m taking out my current dvd burning, and will be reformatting my 160gb samsung 5400rpm HDD

yeah, that all looks prefect compatibility wise

for compatibility, all you really need to worry about is the mobo and the cpu, unless you want a multi gpu set up, then you need to find out if the chipset is crossfire/sli compatible

I have a few minor issues with the build as it stands.

First off, there is no reason (that I know of) to buy 4 1 gig sticks when 2x2 is the same price. I realize the timings are tight on those, but I think you'll have just as good performance with a 2x2 set of Mushkin:

FAR more likely to be compatible because of the 1.8V vs. the 2.1 of the Patriots.

The other thing is I did not understand your choice of HD. Generally when ordering WD you want the AAKS models. I think there is a performance difference. I also think both the 320 and 640 versions of the AAKS are faster than the 500.

You made some good choices though. Did you read the reviews on the Hiper PSU? You might want to confirm that is the same unit... there was something about the "M" series in the reviews and I do not see an M. Gotta watch out for those product switches

mmk, ive made the revisions, switched toa corsair PSU, after reading that they were very reliable. Now, i was looking at the compatable CPU/bios, and what happens if my cpu is supported on the stock bios? I know i must be getting anoying, but im 17, buying this with my own money, and my dad has threatend utter groundation if something doesnt work. i dont wanna be stuck with no post : (

No problem at all. Are you saying you aren't sure if the board will have a BIOS version that supports the E8500 or if you will need to flash it?

I think you will not have any problems that way. you'll be able to boot. Don't pull the trigger just yet though.

Spend dad's money a bit more wisely and get either an e8400 or Q6600. The E8500 is brand new and not that big an upgrade. You won't notice the difference.

lol, its the money ive saved over summer. and yeah, im not sure if it supports it, and i, never doing this before, am scared crapless that ill have to flash the bios and screw it up from inexperience.
and ok, will either of those still be good for gaming? i know the Q6600 is 2.4 but thats made up by the 4 cores correct?

In a way, yes. While most games currently will probably run better on an E8400, more games will make use of quad cores in the future. For multi-tasking quad cores are also better.

My suggestion is to get the E8400 now, and then sometime later when it becomes clear that you really need a quad, you'll likely be able to find a 2.8 or 3.0 quad at a good price.
