this will be going on a 22' dell, have not decided on the operating system vista ultimate or home premium 64

Uhhh, whats with the old hard drive. Get a new one, a lot faster then those 7200.10's. Especially for this kind of money, check this....

you might want another HD for scratch files. I know you have a 1 TB external but to me, an video system needs its on scratch drive and keep the 1TB drive for backups.

Well, my experience has been with video editing so you might be alright with what you have. Plus you can add another later.

Just going to throw this out there, but pick some better peripherals man!

Mouse and keyboard are what really make a computer shine!... and for the love of god, please tell me your not thinking of using the onboard sound for audio work? That is practically blasphemous ...

Skittle is right. I'd add one of these cards:

OK, try the onboard first, see how it feels.

I'd change the HDD to WD6400AAKS. You get 640GB instead of 250GB for a few bucks more. The WD is also faster at reading/writing large files, which I guess matters for audio editing. Also, I'd get two disks, because some editing operations work much better if the source and destination are on different disks.

The rest of the build is actually perfect, IMO. [:mousemonkey:5]

i have an M-Audio external Fast track PRO cause I'm mobile with my stuff as for the keyboard i was thinking about get this :
