the HD4850 = 9800GTX
GTX>GT
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814121253
after the rebate the 4850 is $157.99

There is, literally, no difference between the 9800 GT and 8800 GT.

HD4850≈9800GTX>9800GT=8800GT

The 65nm 9800GT is literally identical to the 8800GT. There is also a 55nm version of the 9800GT but it is also identical in every way except that it:

  • Supports HybridPower (meh)
  • Possibly overclocks a bit better*
  • Maybe consumes a bit less power* ;)
  • Maybe runs a little cooler*

*This is my own baseless speculation, I haven't heard any reports of this actually being the case

Now the HD4850 is generally faster than the 9800GTX but this depends a lot on the game and level of AA that you use, hence my claim that they are about equal. Both are certainly faster than the 9800GT. The 4850 also has DX10.1 support which may be relevant at some point.

?? Most of those benchies show the 4850 coming out on top, especially with AA (why even test without it?). Also, TweakTown is not greatest :)

Running E8400 and HD4850 on an ECS mATX motherboard and my machine scored 13,504 benchmarks on 3dMark06.

Remember the drivers for the HD4850 are not quite up to speed with NVIDIAS when it comes to doing the 3dMark06 benchmark and doesn't have much support from 3rd party GPU tuning applications like RivaTuner.

Actual game play with HD4850 has great image quality and physics.

There are a number of benchmarks online that show the HD4800 series doing very well with Crysis.
