I am just wondering what the best SLI graphics card that I should get to be able to play crisis with all very high settings.
I am going to build my own PC in order to play high def games and I want to get good performance out of it, so I would like to see if any of you guys can recomend some of the compenents that I should get to achieve this.

I am New to all of this so if there is a web site or something that you might recomend to understand computer components please tell me.

No no no...no mistake...I just wanted to warn you. You might get flamed on this one, only because there are tons of forums on THG about it, and most people feel like its deja vu. There is plenty to learn, just poke about a bit and you can find most of it.

You might also want to check out the forums at http://www.incrysis.com/ for info as well. There are custom configs that work well, and of course a lot of benchmark data from different setups.

My base setup:

XFX Nforce 790i
3.45 (OC) QX9650
2GB DDR3 RAM (1333)
1GB XFX 9800GX2

Cost me an arm and a leg when I built it (CPU cost $1200, but it handles all high Crysis (DX 9 anyway...) at 45-60 FPS. It does struggle more later on though, but a second 9800GX2 should clear that up. Note, I only run at 1280x1024 (its a necessity, but gets the job done).

Also, do you have an idea on how much you want to spend to get Crysis on a playable level? Any objections to all high at 800x600? 1024x768? Take some time to figure out exactly what you want, than figure out how much you want to spend to get those results.

Three GTX 280s in Tri-SLI on a 790i Ultra board with 8 GB of low latency DDR3 RAM and an Intel Quad Core processor that gets at least 4 GHz.

That should handle everything on Very High up to 1920 x 1200, not sure if you can do AA/AF though. Anymore than that and you're dipping back down below 40 FPS most likely.

HA! It's amazing how much better this game plays above 3.6 vs even a 3.0 processor. You're right about the memory. 8gig helps it load a lot faster too.

One of my friends just built a new machine with a DFI board, 8gig of 1066, ( ddr2 ) an e8500 and 2 4870's which he over clocked. Can run at high and very high res. ( proc @ 4100 and something )

Who do you blame for the slow processors on the market, Intel for sand bagging it or AMD for falling on their faces and not providing the competitiveness ?

To the OP if Tri-SLi doesn't answer your question, then you're asking the wrong question.
Re-think and either be specific when asking or else search the other 'what should I buy' threads starting with Cleeve's sticky.

Kinda funny people said the same about nV, and then this last release everyone realized, Oh Jeez, they weren't sand bagging, they didn't have anything.
Based on intels 45nm woes of their own, I doubt there's all that much sand-bagging going on. The biggest difference being I don't expect AMD's CPU div to pull of the return that AMD's GPU division did.

Not true.

You dont need a Quad for Crysis it doesnt even use two cores properly, Gtx260's have exceptional sli scaling in that game and an overclocked gtx 260 is faster than a stock gtx 280, so its not that expensive at all.

Thats not even a $1000 and all it takes to play Crysis on Very high is to set the cpu to 4ghz and overclock the hell out of the gtx 260's.


1680x1050 DX10 Very High is possibile not problem on a 4ghz Dual, 2 x gtx 260 oc and 4gigs of ram.
