Does using PCIE risers affect speed?

I just got an nVidia GeForce 8800 GT. It's too big to fit in my case without either cutting up some things or getting a flexible riser card to allow to put it in a different place. My question is whether or not using the riser will slow down the video cards performance.

  1. It'll definitely add latency even if it's just electrical and not a bridge solution, but whether or not it affects performance is something you'd have to test, as I've seen no one test the performance with/without.

It makes sense that the impact would be minor a few % at best for a single card solution.
