Where can I find? I need one with at least 10 internal SATA 3Gb/s connectors... not 6 like my ABIT IP35 Pro.

I have not seen one with 10 sata ports but I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R which has 8 sata ports.

Is this the only MB with 8 SATA connectors?

I also need to know if the GA-P35-DS3R will not force me to buy a firewire card to transfer all contents from my camcorder (mini DV tapes). My old Pentium 4 needed a firewire card, I was wondering if that will be the case for the Gigabyte.

Just put in a add-on card (pci to sata2) newegg has them. You can get 2 or 4 connects

The GA-P35-DS3R does not have integrated firewire ... you need the GA-P35-DS3P or the GA-EP45-UD3P for that.

Do you know that motherboard manufacturers have websites that list all that info ?

The ASUS P5Q Premium has 10 SATA ports 6 run by the ICH10R and 4 run by the Silicon Image Sil5723 controller

And the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DQ6 has 10 SATA ports also has the 6 ICH10R and 4 on the Sil5723 controller

Thank you for all the help provided into this topic! :)

I have only one final question!

After reading the Asus review:

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/p5q_prem/4.htm

And:

Swinging on to the bottom of the P5Q Premium we will take a look at the headers supplied on the motherboard. From left to right there is the is the audio header, the CD-in header, two Firewire headers, two USB 2.0 headers, the TPM header, power/reset buttons, and the front panel headers. Swinging to the right spine of the board are the ten SATA ports.

Port 0-3 support the Drive Xpert feature of the P5Q Premium, which use the Silicon Image SIL5723 controller and need no drivers to be installed to an OS before being fully operational. If one drive is connected you can set it only as a backup drive for your system.

With two drives you can set them up in backup mode (RAID 1), and Super Speed mode (RAID 0), without the need for any software or drivers.

Think of it as a separate RAID controller independent from the ports operated by the ICH10R southbridge, which controls the six red SATA ports. To the right of the SATA ports are the IDE port, the floppy port, and the COM port.

Are you sure we can plug 10 SATA drives, like this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822148337

And use all of them? English is not my native language, that's why I need to be sure the aditional 4 SATA ports are not designed to be used only as a way of backup, I mean, I don't want to find out that only 6 SATA ports are operational and 4 of them are somehow only working as a mirror drive or something.

Just a confirmation if I'll be able to use and access the contents of 10 different drives at the same time. I thought this kind of MB never existed.

Am I correct to assume the Gigabyte model is better?

One user review has pointed out he was not able to use more than 6 SATA ports.

Quote :

The 4 SATA ports attached to the JMicron controller ONLY work in raid 1 mode.

Other Thoughts: I bought this motherboard because it has 10 sata ports.. I guess I'll be buying a pci-e sata card.

Quoted from here:

I also need this confirmation... does that mean there is not even a single one MB that can have more than 6 SATA ports? I don't believe it!

The GA-P35T-DS3P motherboard fully supports 8 sata drives at 3.0 GB /s.

Have testet it and runs fine 6 independent sataII drives and 2 in a mirror raid. only system drives are in mirror raid on the GIGABYTE SATA2 chip, but raid configuration is not required.

This motherboard works for 8 sataII drives.

The Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P has 10 sata sockets. Idiotically placed at 90 degrees, which is why I am changing it. It is a major operation in connecting the sata cables when in the case, so connect the sata cables before installing the board.

The GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R has 12 SATA connectors, plus an IDE connectors. That includes (2) eSata connectors. The eSATA connectors are on a different chipset than the internal SATA connectors, so I think they really are independent.

On the down side, it is a socket 1336 board, so a "cheap" processor is $300.
